LAS-SYD: no connection with VA2 in May 2013??

I was just planning a SYD-LAS return flight next May.

I can book VA1 SYD-LAX with a connecting VA flight to LAS operated by DL. However when I look at return flights, I don't see any VA flights (operated by DL) from LAS that connect to VA2 to SYD. I only see VA flights that are operated by DL for both sectors.

What gives?

Wasn't a problem when I flew to LAS in May this year.

Do you mean the connection in lax doesn't work, or you can't see va2?

I see what you mean! I just tried a dummy booking on the VA website for SYD-LAS return for May and as you said, VA1 shows for the outward trip, but the return flights to Sydney only show DL operated flights from LAS and connecting through LAX - VA2 isn't an option to select.

That's Correct..

Is Va2 sold out ... or even operating?

Yes, VA2 is still on the schedule - when I tried doing the flights just SYD-LAX return for some random dates in May, VA2 shows up with availability in all classes, so what the OP is experiencing is quite puzzling. Delta has numerous flights from LAS-LAX during the day, therefore it's not as if there would be a schedule problem in getting an early enough flight from LAS to get to LAX to connect with VA2, so it seems a bit odd!

An update on this thread, I spoke to VA and they said I can most certainly do a LAS-SYD flight with a connection to VA2 despite it not showing on the web. They said they'd book it for me and not charge me the booking fee. I sensed there was some embarassement that their web site didn't offer up VA2 and most likely it was a web error. Hopefully with the transition to SABRE next month things will be different. I'm deferring future bookings until the transition occurs.

Another option would be to book via Expedia or some other online booking site; I've just checked Expedia now and I can definitely see an option for VA1 / VA2 with DL connections LAX-LAS-LAX.

I doubt very much that this has anything to do with Amadeus / the pending move to Sabre - it's just a website problem (and was hopefully reported as such by the rep you spoke to on the phone).
