Hi all wondering if someone could shed some light on the below.

Living in Brisbane and was looking at Business Class flights to Bali on the 17th Feb - 25th Feb.
Ran some searches and found the below....

17th Feb - Depart Brisbane
BNE - Denpsar - 10:15am - 14:25pm Flight DJ4197 - $1429

Return

25th Feb
Denpsar - BNE - 17:25pm - 01:15am Flight DJ4196 - $1382

Total $2811

OR

17th Feb - Depart Melbourne

Melb - BNE - 07:00am - 08:10am - Flight DJ309
BNE - Denpsar - 10:15am - 14:25pm Flight DJ4197

Return
Denpsar - BNE - 17:25pm - 01:15am Flight DJ4196
BNE - Mel - 05:55am - 09:20am - Flight DJ304

Total $1723.03

Same Flight numbers from BNE to Denpsar but cheaper if I leave from Melbourne by $1000...

Called VAustralia initially they told me had to do with Premium seat...go figure... when operator check flights they said I was correct, he was puzzled & no explanation given as to the price difference... And NO I can't book the Melbourne tickets and just board at Brisbane....

What the indeed.

These types of things are not so uncommon from an international sense, but to me that price makes little sense.

Mind you, it would not be the first time that Virgin's booking engine has surprised me. I have found Flexi's cheaper, the same, or marginally more expensive than Saver's on certain flights.

That's ... slightly insane  It's pulling up the same for me.

re: Business Class "What the?" Large Variance BNE and MEL to DPS

I've just sent VAustralia an email detailing it... Im Hoping I don't have to do the Milk run to Melbourne...

Have any of you flow Business Class With V.. Wondering what the seat are like on the Short haul...I've done long haul and it excellent... :D

You may have ruined it for some Melbourne members now ;)

I'm sure they will increase the Melbourne prices rather than reduce the other.

dont fly with them !! you will see this is as someone said on International pricing !! I want to fly Qantas but im not prepared to spend $2500 difference just because I fly out of Melbourne ! my emails are going off the scale with replies from other airlines BUT it is noticeable that Asian airlines are now also maximising their pricing as well !! GGGGGGRRRRR! Global pricing my rear end !!!

There's a Melbourne-Denpasar special on at the moment, for travel dates you have specified.

01 Feb, 2012 - 17 Mar, 2012
01 May, 2012 - 26 Jun, 2012

Try outside those periods and see what happens!

Probably competition with GA who are having specials for business class to Asia at the moment. IIRC, GA don't travel ex-BNE. In airlines around the world (particularly in US), it is not uncommon to see A-B-C priced cheaper than B-C. People pay premiums for direct flights.

Could be right. Checked out SYD-DPS (where Garuda also have a special), and the same deal is there.

Yea checked out Garuda but not to sure about them been reading these fourms also I can't confirm if the business class are flat beds or the old school 70's style.

re: Business Class "What the?" Large Variance BNE and MEL to DPS

Just realised the subject on this is kinda confusing... It's not actually about the airline formerly known as V Australia.

Tickets booked doing the Milk Run !

Think of the extra SCs and points!

EDIT:

This will be a great test to see if short haul Int awards per sector domestically as has been discussed elsewhere. Per sector in J, SCs should award as:
  • BNE-MEL - (Separate PNR) 60
  • MEL-BNE - (Booked connection) 60
  • BNE-DPS - (Booked connection) 80
  • DPS-BNE - (Return connection) 80
  • BNE-MEL - (Retrun connection) 60
  • MEL-BNE - (Return original PNR) 60
Total of 400 SCs. If MEL-DPS awards directly, then you'll only get 280.

Is this correct??

Either way, I'm looking forward to seeing what the actual outcome is. :)
