Hi all

Just read this from the SMH daily news feed...

Qantas was up 2 cents at $2.54 after its wholly-owned subsidiary Jetstar Airlines reached an agreement with Chile’s LAN airline to service Asia and Oceania destinations.
Under the agreement, the Chilean air carrier would rely on Jetstar’s network to service flights to Sydney and Auckland, as well as popular tourist destinations including Bali, Bangkok and coughet, Honolulu, Singapore and Japan’s Osaka

Trying to find more details but this doesn't sound good for the SYD-AKL SC run if Jetstar services the SYD-AKL route. There is no Starclass on those flights is there ?

Cheers and Happy New Year to all...

Makes me think LAN might continue under 1W, rather than *A after their merger if this is true… but I can’t imagine any of their customers to/from SA would be happy having to fly JQ from/to AKL. What are they thinking?

On the other hand, why aren’t they just codesharing with QF to get to Asia? Regardless of the fact JQ now has a lot of Asian destinations tied up, to go from full service to no service wont make the customer happy.

So, taking a different tact, let the rumours begin on JQ offering more to 1W frequent flyers :p

Im hoping the SYD-AKL doesnt go JQ, as i have at least 3 trips planned (not booked) for next year alone. Im not a fan of JQ at all, just generally under-par service and the seat pitch a bit small for me (6'4").

Any ideas when we might know more?

Cheers

When they mention SYD & AKL would they just mean you could connect out of either of these two cities? They would still operate as normal but pax would be able to connect via either of these cities.

Could connect in AKL for NZ domestion locations, or onto SIN on 3K (and then onto further 3K destinations), or continue on scheduled LAN flight to SYD and connect to the other destinations listed (HNL, KIX, HKT, etc.)

I'm more inclined to this. Sounds to me as though you can hook into the Jetstar network from either AKL or SYD, not that Jetstar was going to operate that sector (in place of QF)

To me the LAN press release reads little different to the news.com article and indicates the SYD to AKL flights are safe:

The new routes

This agreement is growing international connectivity between Oceania and Southeast Asia. In this way, passengers can access routes from airports in Oceania in which it operates LAN (Auckland and Sydney), to attractive spots in Asia, like Bali in Indonesia, coughet and Bangkok in Thailand, Honolulu in Hawaii, Osaka in Japan and Singapore.

As an aside, if Jetstar keeps expanding to new markets in Asia and further, and locking in agreements with other 1W airlines, I don’t see 1W being a premium alliance much longer, when nearly all itineraries* include a Jetstar leg where everything you expected and got on your last leg is taken away

*Not yet admittedly, but heading that way.

OK so this makes me feel a little better, by this it sounds like the LAN A340 will still look after the route we want.. otherwise that would cost me 540 Status points next year alone..

PS Happy new year all
