Hi guys, just a quick question (also posted http://www.frequentflyer.com.au/community/travel-news/lan-syd-akl-j-special-18792-6.html#post281250 - mods, let me know if I should delete that, or this post for duplicates).

I have a LAN J flight from AKL-SYD and for those that have flown this leg before, I am wondering what time you checked in and whether you did this at the LAN / Qantas / Qantas Club check in counters.

I'm only travelling with carry-on and am keen on maximising "zzz" time before this OMG o'clock flight :)

Cheers,
W

Last week I checked in at ~3.45am WAY too early, thanks to a leadfoot driver.
LAN J counter was open.
Be warned though that the entrance to International departures does not open until ~4.15am and then the QP opens depending if the staff are on time ~4.30am.
Given you want to maximize sleep time, I would advise to arrive as late as possible for check in as J has a later cut off time.
However, AKL airport has heaps of places to sleep and heaps of ppl do.
Upstairs near the viewing deck past the restaurant is very quiet.

LOL! Sounds like your driver wanted to maximise their "zzz" too...!!!

Thanks for the advice

I specifically asked at the LAN J checkin counter about 2 weeks ago and they said between 4 and 4:30 but no later. That actually worked well with sufficient time for a casual breakfast in the QP then off for boarding.
