Hi all,

I'm off to Club Med Cherating Beach resort with the family in a few weeks time. I've booked the flights separately (QF to Singapore then Firefly to Kuantan). The last piece in the jigsaw is to get from Kuantan to Cherating Beach. Club Med will organise a transfer for $125 but is there a better (i.e cheaper) way. Has anyone done this trip and knows if there are taxis or a bus from the airport? Thanks in advance

It is at least 4 years since I last visited Kuantan. So from what I recall...

I have flown to Kuantan but only gone to the city. Kuantan is a pretty small airport but there is a taxi rank at the airport. Likely a taxi driver would happily take you to Club Med. If they go by their meter then it should cost about RM100. Chances are they will try to negotiate a higher fixed fee. The taxi will likely be a Proton Saga (or similar sized car), which is a pretty small car. Ok for two people with luggage, but three people would probably be pushing it.

It should be possible to organise a minivan (called a MPV in Malaysia) transfer, you would likely have to book it beforehand.

There is a city bus that will take you into the city from there you could catch a bus from the long range bus terminal to Cherating. This would be the cheapest option, but quite a bit of hassle.

I have hired a car and driven for Kuantan to Kota Bharu. It is a fairly easy and scenic drive along the coast with quite light traffic. All the road signs are in Bahasa Melayu, but if you learn a few words you can get by. So hiring a car might be another option to consider.
