Hey Guys,

I'm trying to find some information about the child friendliness of Kuala Lumpur, they have finally cottoned onto the idea that its unfair that Josh gets to go away all the time and they don't. so as a result we are going to KUL:cool: for 10 days next June school holidays (the Tasmanian ones, not mainland AUS)

I have found some cheap fares to KUL on MH but after that I get confused and have no idea what I'm doing as I am still yet to leave Australia, so I need a little more help? and what better place to turn to for that than AFF:mrgreen:

Firstly a few questions:

Is MH a good kid friendly carrier?, 8 hours is a long time for those 2 to be sitting still:rolleyes:

Does anyone know of some cheap accommodation that can take 5 people in the KUL city area? I cant find anything:shock: (Price is the key factor here)

What is there to do in KUL with Kids? how do we keep them occupied for 10 whole days?

Any advice or opinions would be greatly appreciated, and could we try to stay on topic, big ask but its worth a try:lol:

Josh:p

I was in KUL along with a few other places in Malaysia just last week and loved the place. Lots to do and see and not expensive at all. The people are welcoming and infrastructure, especially in KUL is good due in no small part to the Commonwealth Games back in I think 1998.

For kids, and big kids like myself a must do is the Batu caves, able to reached by local bus for under a dollar. Let the driver know and he will drop you there. Or take a taxi for not much more. An imposing staircase to the cave made me shake my head and think about going back to the icecream shop when suddenly monkeys appeared. Heaps of them. It's an easy climb and at the end you are rewarded with as many monkeys as you want. I planned on spending about 30 mins there and spent hours. :p

Lake Gardens park is a good find in the city. There's a children's playground and you can rent boats to take out on the lake.

Firefly watching at Kampung Kuantan accessable by bus or taxi is great.

There's a bird park and a butterfly park. I didn't go but hear they are worth a visit.

You can visit the Petronas Towers, tallest in the work I think if you get there early in the day and take advantage of a free ticket on the lift. Breakfast and coffee at my hotel were more appealing to me at the time.

As for hotels, just look for something suitable near the monorail and you will be able to get around cheaply and usually quickly depending on the time of day. I stayed at Hotel Sentral - wonderful hotel and near transport and not at all expensive but the local area left a bit to be desired. I'm sure someone will know of a good place.

I only flew a few domestic sectors on MH and found them very good. Maybe a few days in Penang would keep everyone busy for a few days.

I wrote up a big post recently about the must dos in KL (you can check my recent posts).

KL is brilliant for cheap accomodation - hostels are dirt cheap and the good ones are as good a quality as most hotels. One good one is Rainforest B+B - they have 4 bed family rooms. I also recomment 41 berangan Home - no family rooms but I'm sure you can get adjoining rooms (and for what it's worth it says the twin rooms have a shared bathroom, but the 2 I stayed in had their own).
