As fate would know it, i gave in and booked very cheap flights with D7 and have 4 days to spend in KUL before heading off to AUH/DXB.

Anyone got any recommendations for AUH? We arrive on sunday night the plan is to head into DXB for 2 days, drive back into AUH to spend 2 1/2 days before flying home to MEL. Is 2 nights in DXB enough or should we spend 3 and reduce time in AUH?

Anything we should be aware of or should be put on our priority list?
Would it be wise to hire a car and do the drive down to Dubai?
Has anyone used a sim card or has it been hotel wifi?
How is the shopping and dining compared to Australia?

Thanks guys.

:p:cool:

Abu dhabi:
Ferrari world.
Emirates palace.
Walk down the waterfront (the conche iirc)
The historical village.
Check out the massive flag.
Abu Dhabi museum.
Shopping. Shopping. Shopping. Shopping.

A desert tour is a must

Desert Safari Dubai

I'm disappointed I missed out. It really is a great experience. Again in Dubai you can't go past the burj khalifa and the awesome view.... Booking in advance is always the best option! (Ouch at the cost of a walk up ticket... Iirc it was about $A150.)

Thanks for the input so far guys!! Im pretty excited plus its for So's birthday so will try to make it worthwhile!! How is the shopping there compared to here? Much cheaper or would it be similar?

Depends on what your buying, I only have third party experience that Tiffany's was around 15% cheaper. And concur with the desert tour, especially the dinner, you need 4 pax in some cases though. The tours we did were through https://www.arabian-adventures.com/en/tours-and-safaris/index.aspx

Ah, I hate the requirements for pax as we are a party of 2. Will hunt around as the desert safari seems memorable and fun!! I'll admit that I'm happy that there's Bath and Body Works in the UAE... I can't wait to stock up on that as well as general clothing! :)

I'm flying in/out of AUH on VA in June 2014 (booked) & am planning to fly to/from Europe on EY (probably to FRA).

I'm looking to stop for a couple of days in either direction.

I'm keen to hear any suggestions as the Middle East hasn't really been on my radar. The main reason I'm going that way at that time is because of the VA DSC offer.

Bumping this thread.

I'm wondering is Dubai worth a couple of days or just hang around Abu Dhabi. Our stay is 7 nights so I'm seeking some responses form those of you who have done this recently. I note some circa 2011 threads which rated Abu Dhabi as boring and Dubai is the better choice but it seems Abu Dhabi has come up in the world since then. Is that right?

7 nights is enough to do the whole of UAE. I would spend a max of 3 days in AUH. Nothing to do after that, rest is in DXB. You can also visit Fujairah.
