Hi All,

I am hoping someone may be able to assist me with my upcoming Brisbane ~ coughet (via Singapore)

I am Velocity Platinum (Standard KrisFlyer)

Work is paying for Economy - Flexi tickets and I would like to upgrade either the BNE-SIN or SIN-BNE leg to business.

Firstly is is possible to upgrade a single leg?
Is it possible to earn velocity points/status AND upgrade via KrisFlyer?

Any other hints/tips would be greatly appreciated.

For question 1, Yes. Which leg is better to upgrade is a matter of personal opinion and subject to what day you are travelling.
Question 2 - don't know. Krisflyer miles still accrue on the base Y fare so you could still be earning miles.

I'm not sure about about Singapore specifically but generally you can upgrade a single sector - don't see any reason it would be different here.

You'll need to use KrisFler points to do the upgrade. As such I don't think you'll be able to credit the flight to Velocity if upgrading unfortunately. But you can earn economy class points/SCs with KrisFlyer, and transfer the points (but not SCs) across to Velocity afterwards if you wish.

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

BNE-SIN, Day, Afternoon or Late overnight
SIN-BNE, Day, Overnight, Late overnight

I feel that this choice is around your preference for what to do in flight.

Which of your sectors will be overnight, if any? If you have a day of work immediately upon arrival in either direction then that is a good sector to upgrade. When I do this, I commit to making the most of the 7 hrs 50 minutes. To do this means not enjoying the meal service and arranging the light breakfast for the last 45 minutes of the flight. (A full meal service can take up 2 hours of sleep time. )

I find I personally don't arrive that rested after the Late night 11:45pm flight from BNE-SIN. I think it has to do with staying so 'awake/aware' until 12:30, eating at unusual time then takes time to settle into sleep. The 9pm-ish SIN-BNE works well for me. I eat a full meal in the Krisflyer lounge around 7pm, shower etc so I'm ready for bed.

I find taking the afternoon flight out of Brisbane is nice in J, a light snack in the lounge before the flight, a full meal service after takeoff, a few wines, a few movies, an afternoon nap and onto some Asian adventure.

So I don't think there is enough time to have both worlds, for me it's either a commitment to enjoying the sleep or maximising the full service offering.

I'll be catching the 11:45pm out of Brisbane and landing in coughet at 7:45am with a full days work ahead.

My return will be the 12:45am from Singapore arriving back to Brisbane 10:35 Sunday morning.

I've done the trip before and managed 7 hours sleep in a Y exit row so I'm of two minds as to which to take. BNE-SIN and plan to maximize sleep or SIN-BNE and take on some of the services and sleep when I get home :)

So far my only J experience has been coast to coast with Virgin.

So I'm now booked to depart 30th Aug.

I checked earlier today and there was a saver award redemption available for upgrade on my outbound leg. However later today it is gone :(

In order to make the points for the redemption I need to transfer from a credit card and then from velocity so couldn't book when I first saw today.

What are the chances of another saver opening up on this flight over the next 10 days? I've also seen it may be possible to waitlist an upgrade, however my upgrade options only show 'not available' is there a trick to waitlisting?

That is the great unknown on the waitlist ride.

If things are happening that fast, you might need to work through the call centre.

The credit card pts transfer is going to become an issue as you are closing out of available days. The operator will want to know how long it will take to get the miles into the account.
