I am trying to help a friend book this in J (240,000) for a trip in May 2016. I can't find a current thread on this topic. I see the limit is 35,000 miles and no backtracking. She wants to fly MEL-LAX-HAV-SJO-TLV-MEL. Of course the hard part is getting to LAX in business, there seems to be availability via SIN and NRT but that will take 30 hours in business compared to 14 in economy direct. She will have to decide which is better. My question is: is this itinerary as shown backtracking? Will Krisflyer let her upgrade to J if it becomes available? What are the change rules on this type of ticket? Any other tips appreciated.

Well that sounds good!

I didn't realise the RTW redemption rate was that low. Might have to look at it for the next trip. You'd come close to spending that on a return MEL-JFK alone...

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

So here is all the information I've been able to accumulate regarding RTW Krisflyer:

- 35 000 miles max travel distance
- 12 months to complete journey
- 16 segments
- 7 stopovers
- stopover = transit longer than 24 hours
- can only move east or west around the world.
- world is split into 3 zones vertically (1) Americas (2) Europe/Africa (3) Asia/Australiasia
- you cannot back track from zone to zone.
- within a zone, you can backtrack (e.g. LA to Miami to Rio to Buenos Aires)
- cannot pay for additional stopover/s
(note I believe there are tighter rules around North America but unsure what they are at the moment)

I'm planning a trip starting June/July next year. Will be booking in the next month or so.

I'd be interested to know how you go booking this. There isn't much information online.

240K for RTW J is a very good deal.

I've recently been trying to find out more about a KrisFlyer RTW in J (~324K velocity points) - I've still got more velocity points to save up before I can redeem though, but I should easily reach it by mid 2016.

Does anyone know if you're restricted to 'award' seats with this ticket? On the Star Alliance RTW planner website, I am able to select the Air NZ AKL-BUE (EZE) flight I'd love to get to kick it all off (well after the first leg to NZ) - but on the Velocity website there are never any award seats available for it, and after reading about Air NZ's award seat availability, I'm not holding my hopes up. :/

You would be restricted to award seats, yes. I certainly wouldn't be holding my breath for a J seat on any Air NZ flight. But there are other ways to get there using points so it's not the end of the world.

Unfortunately, my friends could not get this together for April 2016 because there was no availability for mel to lax. They ended up booking the other flights but not as a rtw. I'd still be interested to hear about other people's experiences
