I'm going to KL in June for the first time for a 2 day conference. I woild like to stay on and do some touristy things and maybe a bit of shopping. Any ideas on what there is to see and do? ...and how does KL differ from Bangkok, Singapore and Hong Kong which I've travelled to a few times before?

Petronas Towers - ask your hotel concierge to get you tickets though unless you like getting up early and spending lots of time queuing for tickets
Bird Park was a highlight for me, a great place to spend half a day if you like nature
shopping is really good, check out Bukit Bintang for electronics/clothing etc or Suria KLCC for high end fashion
KL is far more compact than other Asian hubs - you can pretty much see all sites in a day. Unless you're a serious shopper of course, in that case it might take you a whole day just to check out all shops in Berjaya shopping mall for example

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

Excellent thank you :)

Plenty of shopping centres. I went to Mid Valley, Times Square and a smaller one as well as Bukit Bintang and the markets. Found the markets almost empty during the early afternoon which was a good time to shop as the sellers wanted a sale.
Wasn't a huge fan of KL and found that the shopping centres (and I'm a big shopper) didn't offer many bargains.
Agree with the Twin Towers. It is also very easy to get around KL (where are you staying?)

Yeah i didn't find a lot else to do than the shopping centres...

I went up the communication tower instead of going up the Petrona Towers... Three was like a little zoo at the bottom, there is an aquarium in one of the malls or buildings, forget which one...

Apart from that it is fairly easy to go and see the city but not sure how many actual sites there are...

If you have time to get out of the city, head up to Genting Highlands (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Genting_Highlands); you can also stop at Batu Caves on the way and there's the Chin Swee Caves temple near the top. Genting Highlands itself has a theme park and casinos, as well as an "indoor skydiving" attraction, or windtunnel which is good fun. But even just for a look around it gives you an idea of the mountain terrain sound KL. And its about 10 degrees cooler than KL. Take the cablecar up to the top, rather than driving the last section. You should be able to get a driver for the day for around AUD$100 - I easily did Batu Caves / Genting inc windtunnel / temple in a day with plenty of time for dinner back in KL.

Within KL - in addition to Petronas Towers and/or the communications tower, head up to Marinis on 57 (Welcome to Marini's on 57) for a drink or dinner at the end if the day - it's right next to the twin towars and gives you a great view of KL and the Perronas towers (note that according to the web site you will need to leave your bodyguard in the designated waiting area though...).
