Qantas booking ref: ###### does not work when selecting seats on JAL. Solution is easy - call Japan Airlines and give them your QF ref #. In return JAL will give you their own unique ref # so you can select your seat.

I am flying MEL-NRT-HEL with ref # 666VIP:cool: Happy to guest in MEL Flounge...not sure about guesting in HEL though:confused:

I think that's because JAL uses Sabre (as does AA) whereas QF uses Amadeus. It's a standard 'problem'. Just need to get the Sabre booking number that matches your Amadeus booking number and then you can do the required operations online at the relevant airline website. It would be nice if all OneWorld airlines used the same system.

If you make a QF booking on EK, you will see at Manage My Booking on QF that they actually provide the EK-specific (Sabre, I'm guessing) booking number and note that it can be sued to select seats, so no need to phone up EK to get it.

Instead of ringing you can also add your QF PNR to a checkmytrip.com account. Bring up the booking there and the second line of each listed flight will contain the carrier specific PNR.

Just be warned that if you book a codeshare (e.g. QF flight number, operated by JL) you won't see JL's PNR, you'd still need to ring them.

JAL use a GDS called Axess. According to FlyerTalk they'll move over to Amadeus in November but it's been eerily quiet for a few months.

Eija, 1 tip when you get to the loo of the QFi MEL F lounge, never seen or felt this one before in any of the QF lounges, the doors that lead from the lounge down a corridor, have sensors, on the way to the loos, and will automatically open for you!
Love that QFi MEL F lounge, better than that the QFi MEL J lounge in the basement that I usually have access to!

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

In my canine mind, a thousand times better.
I like a view to the outside, even via glass.
Thats just me though, I do realise that others will have diffferent priorities when it comes to lounges, ie, some might love to have a fried noodles "stall" in the QFi MEL J lounge on flights to HKG. That does not tickle my fancy.
A view is all I ask for.

Next you will tell me you prefer flying F then whY or J ;)

The heated mirrors in the F lounge bathrooms are what keep me coming back.

;)o_O

How random to bring up a toilet door in a lounge at this point...
