JQ7878: Jetstar Boeing 787 delivery flight arrives MEL at 1.05pm Wednesday

Australian Business Traveller has published the timetable for Jetstar's Boeing 787 delivery flight JQ7878 and included a photo of their 'itinerary' ('Starter Max' fare!).

• departs Seattle's Paine Field Airport, adjacent to Boeing's 787 facility, on Monday October 7th at 11am, US Pacific time (4am Tuesday, Sydney time).
• the Dreamliner will reach Honolulu at 1.40pm (10.40am Sydney), where crew and passengers will spend the night, including Qantas' delivery flight tradition of sunset coughtails and a 'surf'n'turf' dinner.
• at 5.30am Tuesday, Honolulu time (9am Sydney) JQ7878 will be wheels-up and winging its way towards Australia on the final leg of its 13,200km delivery flight.
• the Dreamliner is due to touch down in Melbourne at 1.05pm on Wednesday to a traditional water canon salute, followed by a welcome ceremony at Jetstar's Hangar 141 featuring Victorian State Premier Dennis Napthine and hundreds of Jetstar staff.

Interesting to note the poor standard of 'journalism' in the report with at least two spelling mistakes.

There must be some epic tailwinds forecast for next week if they're planning on departing HNL at 9:00am Sydney time and arriving in MEL at 1:05pm.

I'd have thought a long nonstop would be more "exciting" or newsworthy, but i guess they want publicity in HNL for their new aircraft.

Not if you plan on flying the aircraft from MEL-HNL commercially and want the media to put out the word for you......................

Spelling mistakes aside, I find their journalism to be much better than some of the tripe others put out there.

I agree, it has definitely become my go to website for keeping up with the latest travel news. Some of the reporting on News International and SMH is just dire.

On the issue in hand I have opted to leave the country to avoid this event. I have done this for two reasons.

1. I want to avoid the associated fire and the disruptions that follow.

2. It is Jetstar.

It would have to be close to get to somewhere in Oz in one go with a very light load, even with a headwind.

I believe the Boeing media run last year (that some AFF members were fortunate enough to be involved with) was a direct flight from PAE to SYD on its initial leg.

That was not a JQ bird of course, and I believe the UN has made it a violation of basic human rights for one to endure JQ longer than 10 hours
