Caught this flight last Thursday (26 Feb), due to leave MEL at 2130 hours and arrive at 2245.

Apparently this time is extremely fluid and when I mentioned it to my colleagues in Tasmania they all laughed and said it never leaves on time. Is this the experience of fellow AFFers? Is this one of those flights to avoid at all costs?

We eventually left about 12.30am Friday morning. Thank goodness the no show had not checked in luggage. Got to my hotel about 2.15am and then at work at 8.00am.

Fortunately the QP stayed open until just before midnight to accommodate us. Lots of very angry people at the gate and the attitude of the staff was basically deal with it. On the flight I asked the FA what was the reason for the delay and was told that there had been a defective plane in SIN!

To make matters worse my BP wasn't marked with the essential JetFlex wording to enable any time boarding. Wonder who else gets to sit in row one? I wasn't the only person adversely affected, I saw a few others also told they couldn't board until general boarding was called. As we waited we determined we were all on corporate fares.

When I checked in for the 1505 return flight on Friday I asked if this would be printed on that BP and was told of course it would, there is absolutely no way it wouldn't be.

Showed my BP from JQ715 and at least she had the decency to apologise. Still this booking was stuffed up and the only aisle free was in row 9. At least the JetFlex wording was correct.

Ah the joys of paying hugely expensive fares for cheap airlines.

I spend quite a bit of time travelling between MEL and HBA and find that JQ are pretty good. Given QF have two flights a day each way you need to consider JQ as they, at least, have some frequency.

Sorry to hear you had a delay but at least they didn't palm you off onto the early flight first thing the next morning.

As for not being able to board at your lesiure this is a great time to remember that JQ are a low cost carrier. It is only an hour flight and row 1 is not a bad place to be. I like that JQ now charge $30 for an extra leg room seat. It means that on these short flights I always have a spare seat next to me as I am on a JetFlex fare. Who would pay an extra $30 for an exit row to HBA?

I'll be in the the HBA QP on Thurs for the 16:50 to MEL if you up for a Cascade Draught.

I looked at that, seems the first flight down gets there after 8.00am so if it had come to that I would've cancelled the trip.

Thanks for the kind offer but I will spend next week in Sydney. Oh and mine's a lemonade but happy to get you a Cascade Draught.

May not be a bad idea to take a copy of your Jetstar itinerary with you as this specifies the fare type you are on and puts paid to any dispute as to fare type you're on and entitlements that go with it.

It may be that the newer version of their checkin system Jetstar changed to earlier this month doesn't print out Jetflex on your boarding pass.

This glitch is usually referred to as a 'system enhancement'.
