Todays JQ37 SYD-DPS was cancelled. I am on this flight on Friday. Anyone have any idea why it was cancelled today.

Also I had a call from a JQ staffer yesterday checking to see if I was all set for Friday's flight and if I had any questions. A first for this airline...

i could imagine that jetstar anticipated that alot of people would be pretty annoyed and i know i would personally be wanting to wake up in bali on christmas day rather than arriving there late at night

I am not sure what your comment/answer means. I am planning on arrving late on Christmas day anyway thats when JQ37 arrives. Are you referring to the call I had from Jetstar about my flight on Friday or todays cancellation?
Cheers

Could be a number of factors, such as the Aircraft needed for operational requirements, light loading, etc

Or seeing how many no-shows there might be to fit on affected pax from 22/12.....

JQ Darwin have a massive crewing problem in that F/A's are resigning en masse & they can't seem to hang on to them. Mind you JQ management are in Dreamworld if they think they will stay when the pay is abysmal.

I think the back of the clock flying is a huge factor ie DRW based F/A's get no overnight stays in Asia it's DRW/SGN/DRW, DRW/SIN/DRW or DRW/DPS/DRW there and back leaving late arvo or early evening, departing Asia late at night & arriving in DRW in the wee hours of the morning. You might get 10 hours in between if you're lucky trying to sleep during the day before doing it all over again maybe 5 days in a row.

This has caused a number of flight cancellations and they don't have enough flight attendants left to crew the scheduled flights. They have had to resort to cross hiring flight attendants from Strategic Aviation for 3 months, giving them a one week course in the differences between the A330 (they currently fly on at Strategic) to the A320/321 which they will be flying on for JQ.

Of course this lot are getting paid well which when you think about it if JQ paid the F/A's a decent amount to begin with they probably wouldn't be faced with as big a problem as they are now. I'm sure Strategic are happy with this arrangement as it gives their F/A's exposure to the A320 which they hope to get on their AOC later this year.

Not sure what A320 staffing issues in DRW have to do with the cancellation of an A330 SYD DPS flight , probably more to do with loads.

Or maybe we are simply wandering a little OT as 'sometimes' happens around here :!:

Doh. Was either the BNE/DRW/DPS or SYD/DRW/SGN which had flow on effects for return sectors. There's been bird strikes as well resulting in cancelled flights not just crew shortages.

A colleague of mine was due to fly SYD/DRW on JQ and was told the flight was cancelled due to a cyclone! As far as I know we haven't had one here in the last few days.

He rang a mate in DRW who said we were experiencing a tropical low. Close but no cigar.
