Surely they weren't on a 717? It would barely make the trip.

But what i really hate is the B717's file pic.
How boring.
7news on the Sunshine coast only has Pics of the old F-28's, and they dissapeared along with East West, and Airlines of N.S.W.....very boring.........

Cheers Dee

No, thats exactly the point, there is no 717's left in the fleet, all have moved on now. Only A3xx's (A320. A321, A332)
The A/C in question is an A330-200 originally purchased by QF and transfered to JQ for international ops.

Gotchya.
I hated the 717s when they were in use for JQ and Qantas. They claimed to be the quietest plane in the sky, but I found it the noisiest and very uncomfortable.

According the the news article Westaway says passengers were not allowed off the plane because it would have made the delay longer.

I guess what he means is that if passengers were allowed to roam the terminal until the fault had been fixed then it would have taken another 20 mins to reboard everyone.

So the delay would have been 20 minutes longer.

Either spend 3.5 hours cooped up, or roam the terminal, get a drink, shop for an extra 20 minutes longer.

Given the choice I reckon people would have opted to deplane.

No wonder people are frustrated and get cross.

I have been stuck several times in plane for periods exceeding 4 hours. It's not fun.

Agreed, it would appear it was for JQ's benefit and not the pax's that they were kept on board.

I did hear speculation that the crew may have risked being 'out-of-hours' had the delay been much longer, forcing JQ to accommodate the pax overnight and find a fresh crew, but I don't know how true that is.

Well that could make a bit of a difference.

So why doesn't Westaway say that? Instead you get some patronising 'it would have made the delay longer' without exaplanation.

ome to think of it... given that the crew need to be at the airport an hour before, plus 9 hrs odd flying, plus 3.5 hour delay - that's getting close to 14 hours - and they would have been up and about getting ready and bussing to the airport before that... bit scary for how long they have been up!

I agree. In fact I'd take an extra couple of hours delay over being stuck on the aircraft for that long.

This was stated in a radio interview on 3AW radio yesterday morning.

It's incredibly stupid (IMHO) that laws include time on the ground when there is a fault as part of working hours. Perhaps they could get paid overtime, but they're not doing anything too strenuous on the ground so why should they be classed as overtime while waiting for something on the plane to be fixed. They could be asleep, resting, relaxing.

Umm, I work in an office sat on my big fat cough, I don't do anything too strenuous. So it is ok for me to work more the legislated maximum hours? why stop at 14 or 16 hours, why no 20 hours?

In fact, lets go back to the industrial revolution, pre-OHS legislation. 18 hours down pit, go to bed at 4 am and wake up at 2 am, and lick road clean for breakfast.....;)
