Qantas has announced the departure of executive general manager John Borghetti.
Borghetti, who was overlooked for the chief executive role when Geoff Dixon departed, will leave the company on May 4 after a career spanning 36 years with the airline.
“John has made a very considerable contribution to the Qantas executive team since my appointment as CEO and I would like to thank him personally for this and for his long-term commitment to the company, its employees, customers and shareholders,” chief executive Alan Joyce said.
Borghetti said: “I have enjoyed my time with Qantas and leave knowing our succession planning has developed a new generation of senior leaders who are well-prepared to take over the reins. Qantas has a clear strategy for the future and a great team leading the business, so now is the time for me to explore the opportunities I have been wanting to explore. I wish Qantas and each member of the Qantas team every success for the future.”
Borghetti’s departure will trigger changes to the senior executive committee, with Rob Gurney appointed group executive – Qantas Airlines Commercial. Lesley Grant, executive manager – customer and marketing, will also join the executive committee.
