Has anyone recently checked in on JL712 from Singapore to Narita ? All the info I have seen says the early checkin operates "From 3 hrs to 12 hrs before departure, available from 0600 hrs". If the counter opens at 6 for an 8:15 flight that's just over 2 hours which doesn't seem right.

Did that flight earlier this year. Was there around 6am and all counters were working, didn’t seem to have just opened. In any case there’s no point in arriving too early, if you have lounge access then it’s Dnata which is alright for an hour or so, not more than that and most DF shops will not be open.

There's two parts to this.

General check-in is open 3 hours prior to departure, closing 60 minutes prior to departure. This is open to all pax in all classes. (= 'standard' check-in)

There is also a 'premium checkin lounge' which allows eligible passengers to check in early. This facility is open 12 hours before departure, until 3 hours before departure (from that time, you'd use the standard check-in). This premium checkin only opens at 6.

So in your case you'd just arrive and use the general check-in, anytime from 5.15am.

There really is no point checking in early for JL712 as boomy says.We use that flight 2-3 times a year.Basically Dnata lounge is all that is open and virtually all the shops are closed at 6am.

Thanks for that clarification. I'm arriving on Scoot at 2:30 am so seems I can use the PCL (flying business) then head straight to the DNATA lounge for some rest.

Nope. because the premium chicken lounge doesn't open until 6. Regular check-in will be open before that, at 5.15am.

If you want a bit of a sleep you could arrive on Scoot, book a block of time at the transit hotel, then 'enter' Singapore, pick up your luggage, and head for check-in.

Ah, got it, thanks.

With the opening of the Jewel there is now also a landside transit hotel, so could also ‘enter’ Singapore and collect luggage before going to transit hotel in Jewel.

What happens with your luggage in this situation? Does it possibly take a long time to find and collect from wherever they put it when you don't collect it from the belt right after your arrival?

The bags are stored right by the carousels. Takes a few seconds to collect your bag, but you might have to wait a minute if there’s a queue. It’s all very efficient (and secure).

Hi All, an update on this thread. We arrived at Changi at 2:30 as planned, collected our luggage and did the formalities, caught the bus to T1 then spotted that the PCL was in fact open. We checked in at 3am then proceeded to the Dnata Lounge. So despite the best advice on here, from Changi and JAL, it was all wrong.

What's the lesson to be learnt ? Not sure really. Maybe the next traveller to try this same route might find a different experience.

Thanks for the update! Yup - both Changi website and JAL were a bit off in their published timings. Guess it is worth checking if premium check in is open, regardless of the time.

It was pretty dark and just one guy there so maybe we just got lucky. (He could have been the cleaner !)
