They're all at it.

I usually stay well and truly clear of any airline thats solidly in the LCC bracket but recently had a need to take a serious look at a Scoot offering PER-HKG return. Fare of interest start almost bang on 400$AU return ... that certainly got my interest!

But, after adding this and that, including weird things like AU$15 charge to have your bag 'automatically' moved from the incoming flight to the outgoing one (and no choice there to pick it up and move it yourself) the final straw for me was a not completely small credit card surcharge which topped the total price to just over AU$650.

for $130 more I could get a standard discount Y fare on SQ an airline I've flown and trust many many many times, I'll also score FF and SC's so in reality the total extra cost as a value proposition won't be much at all.

I had wondered initially why the aggregator sites I sometimes use, for initial planning, didn't show Scoot - this will be why, its almost impossible for their engines to determine the price.

That's why drip pricing exists - to cheat/bork price aggregator sites.

ACCC is a toothless tiger anyway - we have seen drip pricing and credit card fees that bear no relation to the cost of transaction and fuel surcharges that bear no relation to the price of fuel on all Australian airlines for years and years and the ACCC and various governments have achieved absolutely nothing about it.

I guess it's the same whenever you book any sort of event ticket through the usual online ticketing mobs. $7.00 handling fee for emailing me a ticket that I have to print myself? It's a total rort.

And don't mention petrol pricing..

Should be made to do what carriers in Europe must do, like this from Easyjet, showing prices for different modes of payment. On the front screen ....

I agree.

I noticed today as I was sniffing about on kayak that there is an option to search for pricing with CC payment and bags - so they are trying at least, at this aggregator anyway, to give more truthful upfront pricing indications.
