Hi all,

I'm planning a holiday to Japan and looking at Jetstar. I plan to head over at the end of September, and come back early December.

As I only have a tourist visa, I'm aware that Jetstar will require proof of a return ticket to let me fly. The unusual thing is, I may be able to arrange a free return ticket, so I'm not sure if I would use part of the return ticket I would buy.

So, my plan was to buy a return ticket, with the AUS->JPN flight as a Jetsaver (non-refundable), and the return JPN->AUS as a JetFlex (refundable).

My question is, after I start my trip, and arrive in Japan, would I be able to get a cancellation for the return leg? I'd hope so, but I'm looking for any traps that I might not be aware of.

Many thanks,

Daniel

I would book them on separate bookings if doing so. I don't foresee any issue, but just be prepared that the refund may take some time to come back:!:

Jetstar are pants with refunds, I had a situation about 2 years ago where they re routed my flights which incurred significant delay and hanging about, I asked them to refund the tickets as we didnt have the time to hang around for 4 hours in Albury and JQ said it would take 6 weeks.

In the end I got in contact with the Head of the Customer Service team and someone else and emailed them to get my money back. Managed to get it in 2 weeks in the end, but only because I emphasised it was there fault.

I would definitely book them as 2 separate flights. Just go the Jetstar Japan website to book the return, you will need to pay in YEN so depending on your credit card may get charged a foreign currency fee but I have found the flights from Japan are often cheaper and always check before booking a RTN and often end up booking 2 one ways instead to save money.

Cheers

Why are people saying to book it seperate?
The system is very simple and wont matter what so ever if the 1st sector has been travelled on. Just book it as a return trip, otherswise if it is cheaper book it in 2 one way segments.

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.
