I have a return flight booked for this weekend flying from Sydney to Melbourne. Due to circumstances I am in Melbourne now and will remain until the weekend The return flight is on one Booking.

I am planning on using the return flight back Melbourne to Sydney.

A couple of questions:

1) if I am a no show for the Sydney-Melbourne leg will there be any problems using the return flight.

2) can I change my SYD-MEL flight to a date after the second leg?

The flights were bought using Tiger price beat.

Looks like you're asking if you miss the first leg will the second leg be cancelled?

Short answer: Yes.

If you dont checkin for your flight SYD-MEL, I believe they will cancel your return flight MEL-SYD.

Best read the T&C's of which you bought the fare under.

Yes that's exactly right. Or preferably pay the $40 change fee and use that trip for a future trip to Melbourne

I just spoke to Jetstar. I can miss the first flight and take the return flight apparently that is no problems.

I can also change the original flight to another date and that date can be after this weekend. Change fee is $70 plus any fare difference. However being Easter I paid $109 for the flight so it is likely that another flight will be cheaper, so potentially it could be less than $70.

You can miss the 1st sector and still travel on the 2nd sector, no issues with that at all.
Yes you can change the 1st sector to be the 2nd sector too.

This is quite different from industry norms. Not that I'm saying you are wrong, but it would be good to see some evidence showing that what you have stated is indeed possible.

Jetstar sells one way flights, that may happen to be grouped together on an itinerary. Moving things around should be possible!

I'm not named the 'Insider' for no reason.

Correct, Jetstar are a point to point carrier and only sell one way fares, nothing is really 'connecting'. Each flight booked, it it's own flight, nothing else.

The call centre told me the original flight was $109 but I think that might have been before price beat. It seems like it is only $67 that I paid. I think I will just sacrifice the first flight and travel home on the return leg as it seems I can do that.

Let us know how this goes fersea - thanks for the information to TheInsider - maybe I am just paranoid, but I would want the conversation with the JQ call centre documented, screen captured and call centre recording ensured etc etc before I risked something like that, sometimes people in the JQ call centre have been known to be incorrect. But not a huge loss for you if it all goes wrong. Would be interest to hear how it all goes fersea, are you flying the return MEL-SYD leg soon?

My flight is on Sunday. The original Syd-Mel flight is tomorrow morning. I have managed to check in to just the return flight already and have the mobile boarding pass on my phone.

Happy to say there were no problems what so ever. Checked in online before both flights were due for only the second flight (boarding pass to mobile) and had no problems only taking the second flight.

Good to know. Thanks for reporting back, and I'll go update my little notebook. :)
