I was in the middle of booking a *class flight from SYD-MEL tonight when the booking engine returned an error while I was selecting my seat. Something along the lines of "blah, blah, blah, error please try again". Note that this was after I'd entered my credit card details.

So, I tried again! This time I was successful. I received a booking reference number and I was happy that this was the booking that would get me to WP.

Imagine my horror, nay, shock, horror!!!!, when a while later I received two, yes, that's right two (2) confirmation emails with different booking reference numbers !

I tried checking online with Jetstar but only one of them seemed to work in bringing up my booking. hmmm, I smell a rat!

One hour and thirteen minutes later I receieved my itinerary and invoice from the first unsuccessful booking.

How dare they, how very dare they!

If they think I'm paying this then they've got rocks in their heads. I'll only pay it if I get miles and SCs for it!

How very dare they!!!!!!!!

If they charge this amount to your credit card, make sure you dispute the transaction. If that fails, file in the supreme court for a full refund.

Dear dede,

We at Jetstar understand that you were incorrectly charged for your recent flight booking.

Please find attached a cheque for the full amount overcharged.

We hope you fly Jetstar again soon (no-one else will).

Lots of love,
Jetstar Customer Scare.

<attached cheque will be for $0.00 - I was going to dummy up a Jetstar cheque for $0.00, but alas couldn't find an appropriate blank cheque design to borrow>

Exactly the same thing happened to me on a Sunshine Coast to Sydney, but with a difference. The second booking was only picked up by the counter staff in Sydney, who advised me that I had another two bookings, one for myself and my wife, in the system for the same flight, for my retrun trip to Maroochy, otherwise I would not have picked it up until I received my credit card statement.
To cut this short story long, I called J'star as soon as I arrived home, "no worries" they said, a re-imbursement will be made to your credit card in approximately 6 weeks.
Luckily a credit to my card was made in 5 working days.

Imagine the amounts of money they are making on this, although it has to be returned, they could be making a monza on interest!

Cheers,
Mike

Feel free to move it to the playground, I don't think I can do that. I'll take note of it for next time I do something silly.

How about a credit held for you and available to be applied to your next Jetstar ticket purchase for a fare of equal or higher value?

Yes another problem with LCCs.I must say I have just been impressed with Malaysian.Tried to make a booking on the weekend but a paranoid CC provider knocked back authorisation as the amount was in ringgits and they are sceptical of malaysian transactions.
The booking comes up in your itineraries but listed as "failed".You can then delete it and start afresh.Having notified my CC provider the new booking went through. In the 3 days the price had dropped :D.

It is better than my encounter with Emirates last earlier this month when the system crashed after I had put in my credit card details.

I called Emirates and was put on hold for 15minutes before talking to someone who then put me on hold for another 15 minutes. She then told me everything is fine.

I turned up at the airport with the email confirmation and was told the payment did not go through. I almost missed my flight if the "friendly" staff at Emirates did not "help me" get a seat in a very full flight.

Actually, this thread should not be in the playground (although some individual posts should be) as it is pointing out an issue with Jetstar bookings.

Isn't this an easy situation.

Pay the first invoice, fly on that and cancel the second booking. ;)

It was a semi serious/semi silly post. I WAS a bit concerned at first that I'd been charged twice. It's an interesting situation to get a confirmation number and zero balance invoice from a failed transaction. It's something I've never seen before and I guess Jetstar should be applauded for giving you confirmation that the transaction didn't go through.

This post is not a silly post at all.

I have often wondered how to get my hands on the eticket to check that the booking has in fact gone from a reservation (which can be easily seen on checkmytrip) through to a proper eticket.

Checkmytrip shows some etickets, but not all, especially if the reservation is changed.

I am surprised that no one in the airline industry has come up with a simple solution to viewing an eticket. Reservations can be viewed very easily online but it is not until one turns up at the airport that you become aware of ticket problems - most notably that your ticket does not match the reservation and needs to be reissued, revalidated or whatever.

Any thoughts?
