Hi All

I book the odd JQ flight and I was very pleased to discover that they have quietly reduced the RIDICULOUS $8.50 fee on a domestic sector to between 0.48 and 1.06% for cc's. Interestingly POLI now attracts a 0.75% fee.

So I did a test on AMEX and a $59 fare attracts a 63c charge now, compred to $8.50 yesterday. Hallelujah! Brilliant. I believe these fees are even less than QF/VA.

Nice to see these new rules come into force as of today.

0.75 is PayPal (visa, mc, UnionPay) - Poli should still be 0

And JQ MasterCard is $0 fee!

Should have been so in the old system as well. It was some incentive to get the card, but in a sense, that was the only incentive (not that flying JQ is an incentive).

According to the Fees and Charges page on Jetstar, POLi should have no fee. Paypal has a fee of 0.75%. Credit cards are all 1.06%.

Unlike QF and VA, the surcharge amount is uncapped. This means that:
  • You would need to spend at least $800 (per fare) for your card payment fee to be higher than $8.50
  • Using the benchmarks of $11 capped for domestic/Trans-Tasman and $70 capped for international, to exceed those amounts on Jetstar, you would need to spend at least $1040 to exceed $11 or $6600 to exceed $70. On Jetstar, that's unlikely to happen.

Finally, at least according to the website, these fees are only correct for bookings with the first operating carrier as JQ. If the first operating carrier is 3K, the old system of $8.50 per person per flight applies.

Looks like Tiger has cut theirs down to 1.3%.

It's actually 1.33%
