Wow, Jetstar is turning into the Woolies of the skys! What's next - a free toaster or knife set?

Jetstar is offering a 30 cent per litre discount fuel voucher for the first 30,000 eligible bookings. Just follow these 3 easy steps:

1. Book a return flight using the booking engine below by 5:00pm, 08 June 2008,
2. Ensure the return date for your trip is on or before 30 June 2008,
3. We'll mail you your petrol voucher by 11 July 2008. To get your voucher, you'll need to enter the street address that you want the voucher mailed to in the booking process.

The fuel discount voucher will be valid for the first 30 litres purchased at participating independent service stations around Australia. To find your nearest participating service station, visit Servo Savers Australia.

All travel is subject to the Jetstar Conditions of Carriage.

Before you book your international flight, and before you travel, check current Australian Government travel advisories at www.smartraveller.gov.au.

Fuel Voucher Terms and Conditions

Search on www.servosavers.com.au to find your nearest participating service station. Your nearest service station may not be within 5km, and you may need to search within a wider radius.

One voucher for 30 cents off per litre, for the first 30 litres, will be issued per booking (not per passenger).

The voucher must be surrendered on redemption and redeemed before expiry date of 31 August 2008.

The voucher cannot be used in conjunction with any other offer or Servo Savers docket.

Want to save 30c per litre on fuel?

Amazing what people will go for....

Not to mention the people who have to drive past several servo's to actually find one that takes "Servo Savers". That could be $9 alone!

Great marketing. I guess someone who is bold enough to purchase cheap JQ airfares would be thrilled with a possible further saving of $9....

$9.00 is still quite a bit of fuel for most people, especially in an era where smaller cars (and frankly huge "cars", too) are starting to inhabit our roads. People scoff in most contexts at $9.00, but $9.00 will transport most cars a fair distance.

$9.00 = Most "complete" meals from take-away stores (e.g. McD's), 2-4 cups of decent coffee, 4 toll charges, about a few kilometres trip in a taxi, more than 1 credit card charge by QF .......

Having said that, unlike MRs, people probably don't just buy JQ just to get a mere jerry can of petrol. It's an incidental thing - you need to fly, you get a token (no pun intended) "bonus". (Just like you wouldn't go to the store and buy $30 worth of junk just to get the 4c/L discount voucher, and you don't pay $16k of plane ticket just to get F pyjamas.)

If there was any ulterior objective here, I'm guessing that the 30c offer and JQ sales hardly ever - if ever - align.

For someone atracted to cheap flights, it probably is tempting - especially if they don't work out the maximum benefit.
