Hello all. An interesting one that maybe somebody can shed some light on.

I frequently fly BNE-ADL on QF, often via MEL/SYD as the routing rules allow. Recently I was playing with the multi-trip tool and selected a JQ flight accidentally as one of the two segments with odd results. Occasionally when selecting a JetSaver fare, it comes up as JetFlex when reviewing the itinerary before purchase. The results are repeatable but not consistent. I'm not aware of any routing that such a combination would fall under.

Having flown QF/DJ/TT I thought it may be time to give JQ a go on a short segment. In theory it should provide full Y SC earn. My concern is upon paying and checking my booking I find the fare rules changed to JetSaver and no QFF points even if the latter is specifically quoted on the review page.

QF sales suggested it my be the website fighting with the JQ GDS which they berated as 'Windows platform software' compared with Altea. It does appear odd to me. Can anyone explain why? If I was to book would I have any recourse if the fare rules changed? I don't really want to deal with JQ through QF reservations. :-|

Joshua, welcome to AFF. :D

If you were to follow this route, I would get screen prints of EVERY step and then be prepared to pursue it.

It's up to you - how much are you risking?

Also be aware of the differences between AVV and MEL in any routing you might book.

Thanks serfty. I recently discovered this place so hope to contribute.

Back to QF providing cheap JetFlex tickets, I thought why not give it a go. It seems to show up a lot for me, I've (tried to) attach an example.

I booked ADL-SYD(QF) then SYD-BNE(JQ) Sept 11. QF segment was red e-deal, JQ was JetSaver. Booking engine proceeded to work its magic:
1) JetSaver becomes JetFlex
2) Total cost remains less than actual JetFlex ticket
3) JetFlex becomes JQ 'super saver'
4) Total cost becomes $0.00 (+ CC fee)

Seeing that I wondered if they would they kill your QFF account for booking free flights... then proceeded with payment ;)

It processed fine so I followed up by checking the booking. Actual booking stated the correct cost and put the JQ segment as N class. Having no awareness of their fare buckets I called QFF - it's no good. Spoke with QF sales and cancelled the whole thing before JQ processed it. Thank goodness for priority phone support :)

So, there's no cheating the system - good, but the QF booking engine can really make a dog's breakfast of JQ sectors. It's an interesting oddity but alas, have rebooked all on QF for the day.

So, being the dog's breakfast that it seems, at leat you have to opportunity to change to QF flights. It would be far worse if this was not possible.

I don't fully follow this thread but, that said, I may actually have a similar example. I've just been looking at flights between Perth and Manila. The QF site returns a QF fare to Singapore and then a 3K (JetStar Asia) fare to Manila. The strange part is the costing. I don't know how to post images so excuse the text explanation:
Sale/JetFlex - no seats
Red e-deal/JetFlex - $601
Super Saver/JetSaver - $701
Flexi Saver/JetFlex - $878
If my reading of the elongated QFF rules are correct points and SCs are only earned on JetFlex fares, not JetSaver yet in the above example the JetFlex fares are the cheap ones. So if I've interpreted the rules correct I would earn points and SCs on the cheaper of the fare options.

Does this seem odd? Is it a website error?

It'll likely be a website error, and I'd watch out before you enter your CC details as the fare class will probably change to something that doesn't get you SC's or points.
