My daughter & her husband are travelling with a 3yo & 16 month old MEL to LAX for Christmas - lucky for me, I'm on a different flight, but that doesn't mean I'm not sympathetic to all the other pax!

So 1 idea, a ride on suitcase has been researched & we found the Jet-kids version not only is rideable, but also helps with sleeping! http://jet-kids.com/bedbox

A quick question to QF has found 'due to safety..... not allowed on board, but you can use a car seat if it has the airline sticker!'. Looking further has found AU approved car seats are not approved for use in US, so must rent or buy US approved. So carrying around the US a useless car seat or 2 won't be fun. Then there is only 1 seat & 1 lap, 2 car seats can't be used at same time! Both kids are over weight to use bassinet, so options are very very few & we all know 15 hours feels like days when kids are not happy!

Have sent an email to Qantas & Jetkids, but no response from either after a couple of days. I want to buy 1 for my Grandkids as well as their parents sanity & wonder if Qantas would really deny at boarding - especially as it's carry on size?

Any thoughts?

Different product but my friend uses this for herself and her kids.

Friend confirmed it was SQ only but it doesnt prevent the seat in front from reclining and its attached to the tray table so should be no issues with QF.

cheers,

My client's feedback has been that while the airlines approve them, you cant use them for take off and landing, and they need to be in the window seat. Its also up to the crew on the day to say no if they feel like it.

If you did end up buying one and its sitting around at home, you could use a service like Kindershare to rent it out to other local families and make some money back from it.

Friends of ours recently used this product flying LHR - MEL on QF9/10.

The staff were happy to accommodate them, though insisted they used the window seat I recall. For the most part the staff were confused as none had ever seen the product.

The CARES harness is noted on the QF website as an allowable harness. Having said that, most QF cabin crew had never seen it and most came to ask us how it worked!
