Last week I purchased 4pax biz return to AUH but on rewards seats Z class ticket . Now I see same flight in ASA for same points. If I cancel and re-book would I earn SC's and what points would be be worth to a WP? Much appreciate any thoughts

ASAs on VA are revenue fares paid with points rather than $$ - so if you can find what fare it books in to, it's relatively easy to work out what points and SCs you'll earn. Assuming for a second it's a D or I fare (Business Saver) - SYD-AUH-SYD as a Platinum will earn 18765 points and 160 SCs each way.

100% ASA Bris to AUH 12th sep return 9th Oct. You can get Classic award tickets also as te same price. Classic has ticket code Z and the ASA is I ... But I haven't enough points now to see if there are 4 seats available in the ASA bucket. Based on Notzac there could be 150k points available and 1280 SC's . I cannot risk canceling existing booking only to find there is not 4 seats available . Anyways least I know what I'm missing out on.

Wow... it is real. It books into fare class 'I' (business saver) so as notzac says it should earn 160 SCs + 18765 pts each way for platinum, although there have been some reports that BNE-SIN-AUH can sometimes post as two shorter sectors (120SC + 120SC) despite the single flight number.

That's BNE-AUH return for a net cost of ~150k points + $157 to a WP.

But I haven't enough points now to see if there are 4 seats available in the ASA bucket.
I can proceed to booking four seats on your dates.

May be a sign of VA starting to do a QF style 'marginal' ASA.

I'd like it if they did that

I think its an error fare and only available on that route. I would be booking it ASAP before it is corrected.

+1 jump on that fare now-ish. It appears to be valid for a bunch of dates but only on the EY flight that runs BNE-xSIN-AUH. It's pricing as an I fare, so will credit 18715 points and 160 SCs for a Platinum each way and 14972 points and 160 SCs for a Silver each way.

How would that work Fruitcake? You book and hold 4 tickets? Then what ?

Because you couldn't tell how many seats were available, I was indicating that the system was happy to let me book four seats if I wanted to. You should be able to do the same (ie book four seats) if you are able to get the points.

Unfortunately the risk for you will be that you will need to cancel the reward seats, wait for the points refund (I have no idea whether this is instant or not) and then hope the "glitch in the matrix" making this possible doesn't disappear in the meantime.

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

All good. I will play it safe and stay put. I have or will renew WP for 2015 with other flights. So all I am really missing out on is 80k points. Which maybe less as Etihad only pay 50% bonus to WP as per VA site earning points with partners.
Dang good deal though. Just confirmed my seating with Etihad
8G & D & 9E &F. Best seats IMO

Looks to have been taken down, can't search for BNE-AUH flights online anymore. Get asked to contact GCC to make the booking

Yeh, wonder what goes. Maybe try again tomorrow. There is some strange things going on. I rang plat today as I have some 12 flights booked this year and could only see 3 of them. They could see them but I couldn't . BTW I have seen the ASA Biz class at same rate as classic last month so it must happen infrequently. Worth checking regularly if your in the hunt for long haul tickets.

I thought I would have another look last night, around 10pm and I also saw you could not search for BNE-AUH anymore, it came up with the contact GCC message. Most likely it was a mistake then. Maybe need to be a bit more cryptic on these special types of deals.
