I’m hoping to get some advice from the collective experience of this community for accommodation in Japan for a family holiday next year (Sept/Oct). There will be three of us travelling, 2 adult and a 9 year old, so looking for options without the added expense of a second room.

We don’t travel light so will need some space for three large suitcases. My go-to chain for work travel is Hilton, but I'm not keen on a small sterile business hotel for this holiday, unless anyone can convince me otherwise. Our criteria for accommodation is:
  • Budget AUD$550 per night.
  • King/Queen room with rollaway bed, two singles with a rollaway bed, or Apartment hotel with two/three beds.
  • Centrally located to tourist attractions, close to restaurants and metro/subway stations. Miss Nine will walk, but I want to stay in the heart of the action if possible.

  • Tokyo – 7 nights
  • Kyoto – 4 nights
  • Hiroshima – 2 nights
  • Osaka – 4 nights
Any recommendations for a Ryokan in Kyoto, meals inclusive, suitable for a family would also be appreciated. $1500-2000 budget for one night.
