Re: JAL Bankrupt

Well unlike Ansett it doesn’t seem anyone has done a runner with the leftover cash :p

But more seriously, when is the SkyTeam/OneWorld announcement due?
here is another report suggesting the deal is done with Delta but it will need approval from US authorities-says the approach to the US will be by 15/2-hopefully we will know then.
Japan Airlines bankruptcy details

I wonder if they will cancel some of their block sale agrrements with Air NZ. I've heard loads are lwo on the AKL-Japan service, but they are kept flying due to JAL buying 50% of all seats. Presumably this is a loss maker for them so that deal will go away.

If so I'd say it is bye bye to Osaka and possibly a reduction in NRT flying.

JAL files for bankruptcy

Well it's official - Japan Airlines files for bankruptcy | News.com.au

It'll be interesting to see if JAL do manage to keep all flights going as promised, if JAL stays part of OW, and if JAL actually pulls through this.

Whilst bankruptcy protects JAL against creditors, it still needs to convince the general public that it's a viable choice. They can have all the protections they like in the world, if pax stop flying with them because of the risk, no pax = no income period...

I’d think if they don’t announce their plans for alliances soon, the frequent flyers wont be flying them as they wont know if miles will credit in the future, however, regular, ordinary folk, probably still will.
