I am flying JAL later this year - can I have these points transferred to my qantas account?

Welcome to AFF!

If you’re flying JAL you can quote your QFF membership number when checking-in, or before, and the points and SC’s will end up in you QFF account.

If you don’t give your QFF number and they end up in a JAL account you may have, then you’ll most likely not be able to transfer them.

Thanks - is there anyway to ensure they come to qantas rather than JAL if I have membership of both?

Yes:
Online through manage my booking and entering your QF FF #;
Ringing JAL and quoting your booking reference, ask them to enter it for you (not your JAL FF#);
(Side note on ringing the airline directly: if you have status with JAL but not QFF or v.v. it may be possible to enter two FF numbers, one for points accrual and one for recognition of your oneworld status - others may be able to clarify this.)
At the airport counter upon check in show your QFF card / quote the number.

Do you know your booking class? JAL earns different on QFF:

Thanks for your ideas. I have discovered today it is better to leave points with JL - they will take me further in Aus with Qantas than if I transfer points to Qantas. Doesn't make a lot of sense. Also discovered - not told by my agent - that as I have to fly to Sydney the night before my departure (that flight inc in fare) JL will pay for o/night acc in Sydney.

I'm travelling to London.

So free night in Sydney then a free night in Japan. I believe this happens as family have flown to AMS via JAL and they stayed overnight.

Lots of free accom flying JAL.

Enjoy the trip.

If you're flying through to London in Business, personally i'd be putting it through to QF's FFP as the status credits alone will be enough to give you Gold status, which IMHO is worth more than a slight point burn advantage.

Is there any wonder why they went bankrupt?

Given JAL owns the hotel they predominately use in NRT, I dare say it must have run deeper, though certainly their hotel spend in SYD alone must run reasonably high.

Never used to be an issue when they departed SYD at 9.35am as the ADL flights could get there in time (just!), but not theyre pushing back just after 8am, its impossible.

Take the opportunity to spend a couple of days in Tokyo (maybe Shinjuku) it's an awesome metropolis. We do on our Euro trips.

I presume you are flying in J?
