Looks like as a result of SQ220 being switched to an A380 in April onwards, J saver awards are available for this sector as Krisflyer haven't updated their reward system yet (probably done by tomorrow).

I see J Saver award from April all the way to Xmas and New Year. Unfortunately I don't have real reason to go to SE Asia at the moment :(. I just came back trying out the new Regional J which was fantastic! :D

Good luck to all. I suggest you all book them by tonight as tomorrow is Monday where the admin people will be back to their offices ....

I might be missing something but what makes one think that SQ220 has been switched to A380?

Well it is available in Krisflyer engine now. I have no idea why they would switch A380 to SQ220. Maybe they want A380 going back to SIN as early as possible, rather than sitting in SYD tarmac?

The first posts on this were due to people noticing that booked flights had changed.

Subsequent looking by others revealed that the Booking Engine showed availability.

Only seems to be the SYD-SIN flight and not the return though. How long it will last no-one knows.

That is interesting. The paid/standard booking engine seems to still show the aircraft as either a 747-400 or 777-300. It would be an unusual move for Singapore to move the A380 off the flagship Australian afternoon (4-5 pm) service which links up with the Paris and London A380s in Singapore. SQ220 does not appear to link up with any A380s to London or Paris. SQ219 does link up with the A380 returning from London however.

Well, reading on a SQ forum this same thing happened for 747 > A380 aircraft changes for some routes and those who "beat the booking engine" or had previous J Saver issued tickets for 747 were bumped off, simply told their ticket type was not valid for the aircraft type.
Some only found out at the check in counter :?:
Caveat Emptor ?

Indeed.

It may be changed.....or it equally could just be an an aberation in the booking engine for redemptions.

As reported on the SQ forum some people who had already booked are able to change their seats though. ie some are swapping to the upper deck.

I certainly would not book unless I wanted to fly anyway and were not too upset if it turns out to be only 773 anyway.

No not at all, in many ways prefer the Boeings. I take it these have the large J class seats as well?

Only the 777-300ER (77W) has the large J seats (like those on 380).

Of the 777-300 aircrafts, only one has been fitted with the new regional business lie-flat seats. The rest are old regional seats.

Big differences.

No....not at Saver Rates anyway.

For many of us that is the key attraction ofa saver on the new planes is that you might go from a Regional seat to the "space" of the new seat.

For sitting I actually find the new seat not as good, but the extra space is grand , plus as a bed it is way in front.

Well I tried new Regional J seats on SQ231 SIN-SYD and loved it! Sure I know those are not as big as the 77W and A380s but I managed to sleep properly for a few hours on its almost lie flat configuration. Also it is not too big and not too small, and I am fine sitting and sleeping on it. Since this is still available in J Saver it is excellent value. Whilst I like to try 77W ad A380 J I am not will to pay twice as much.

Yes, I also have just returned (7/3/10) in these new J seats from SIN to SYD. I was on the 777-300 (not ER). Great comfort and almost lie flat. It is the only plane offering this seat at Saver points I believe. There is also the 777-200 that does this run on Saver but I think they are the old regional J seats (2 + 3 +2)? Does anyone know? All other aircraft are the new big J seats and not available on Saver fare.

Regards,

Mitch :)

Just did a check of the seat map on expert flyer, it shows them (on the April dates I checked), as being 2-2-2 config with no F. That would suggest a 777-200ER with space beds (like on the 747). However SQ are refitting some of their 777-200's with new regional J seats as well, so could be these, but more likely not.

Thx for the info. I was not aware they (spacebeds) were on the 747 except for F. I thought all SQ 747's were the old J seats (2+3+2) :?::?:

SQ basically now have four types of J seats in their aircraft (with some minor variation within each type):
New business class - 1-2-1 config in A380, 77W & A340's - fully lie flat wide seats
New regional business class - 2-2-2 on A330s and some 777-300s and soon some 777-200's- leather angled flat seats
"Space beds" - old long haul business class on 747's (2-2 on upper deck, 2-3-2 lower deck) and 777-200ERs (2-2-2), again angled flat seats
Old regional business class - on bulk of 777-300 and 777-200 fleet - 2-3-2 config old style reclining seats or cradle seats as they are often known.

The F seats on the 747's were not spacebeds, they have a different name which escapes me.

Skysuite. And very nice they are too.

Yes Skysuite. And they are (or should I say were) fantatstic. Such a shame they have taken the 74's off the SYD run. These were also available on a Saver fare! Excellent value.:(
