Hi There,

Planning a 2022/23 trip for family of 4 to either Asia or Europe from Australia and looking for route options with decent availability for 4 x J class.

Have 380k KF and 600 Velocity, with small amount of QF.

I know the Europe-Aus is popular so are we better off looking for Asian destinations?

VS have pretty good availability from HKG-LHR
57,500 pts plus $60 is excellent value for their pretty good Upper Class product. Fees on the way out of LHR are the usual rip off.
There are some pretty good J fares out of Asia if you are willing and able to reposition there. I often prefer to use points to get us to Asia and then pay for a J ticket onwards

At this point, with VA not flying internationally, VAd is not in the equation, for the trip to Europe.
You might be lucky to get some J seats on SQ from Aust - SIN, but that is a short flight, so maybe go Y for the trip up from Aust - SIN.
Can't transfer VA points to KF as of now, it might go ahead in the soon future, or might not, we have to wait and see.
If you can defer your plans to Dec 2022, we might know more of the VA and SQ plans by then, Dec 2022 Christmas is a long one (weekend), there will maybe be less demand by then, and its better to plan for 12 months going forward.
2023 might be better, not so much for December, but by then, airfares might go back to pre covid.
MEL - HND is about $6xx_ in J for some months in 2022, if you were to pay.
Cheaper as above mentioned, if you have time, to get something up to SIN, premY/pure Y/discY as its not that long a flight, and then get J from up there.
Forget about VAd in the SQ equation, ((unless you need to fly from a regional city, if you live in one, to a capital city)) that SQ flies from, consider that VA and SQ separate, as of now, till we get more info.
Edit:
If you want to try utilising VA points on SQ as a redemption on a partner airline, ...
**do you mean you have 600 something or 60,000 or 600,000 VFF point?**
You can't transfer VFF to SQ, but you might be able to get seats on SQ using VFF points, if the seats are available, probably have to phone VFF up.

Thanks AustraliaPoochie.

Apologies, I meant 380,000KF and 600,000VFF. So I'd mostly likely look to earn more VFF and then transfer VFF to KF and aim to get to 928,000KF which would give me 4 x J Class return.
Looking at SQ in Oct 2022 there's actually pretty good availability for 4 x J Mel-Paris or Frankfurt. Can also throw in Singapore stop-over for better connections/flight times.
Y to singapore is also a good idea to save on points.

I assume if booking separate classes, I would book Y-class MEL-SIN return and then J-class SIN-Europe return? Is that the best way to do separate tickets? Or can you book it combined somehow?

No transfers between VFF and KF, as of now.
Can you split the booking or happy to?
Is making a set for using VFF points for Aust to SIN, and using KF points for SIN to Europe?
Or 2x2 separate booking for the pax?
If transfers of points between the 2 comes back, well and good.
Wait and see I guess.
Have to start work now so will let others put in their POV.

Have some time now.
Its hard with the not knowing, of what the plans are of VFF and KF.
Its up to you, because now, we know at the least, that redemptions are available with VFF partners.
Your quandry, is that we, or you are relying on the fact that SQ releasing seats.
If you are lucky, when you call VFF up, they might be able to get the 4 of you on one flight, up to SIN on that VFF PNR booking, then you would have to phone SQ up, to do a redemption using KF miles for SIN to other parts of Asia or SIN - Europe.
If you are happy to wait and see, if tranfers of points come back, you can then move VFF points to KF, and make the whole trip booking all in one.
As of now, if you are itching to fly, maybe just pay for 4 using points to holiday in Asia, using VFF points on SQ as main partner airline, to fly Aust - SIN, then holiday around Asia.
SIN - BKK might have some wide body planes.
Aust - SIN, you can do premY/Y to use less points, or if you want to feel the SQ lounge, they can be very good, ((have tried the SYD and MEL KF lounges pre pandemic)), then go J Aust - SIN with SQ.
I know, too much waffly.
Thanks AustraliaPoochie.
**(((then transfer VFF to KF)))**
This/that is the thing, that can't be done as of now.

Thanks AustraliaPoochie for taking the time to respond and your thoughts.

I'm not urgently looking to book, more just planning ahead to understand my options. I expect I won't end up booking until early/mid 2022 for flights in early/mid 2023. So would expect VFF-KF transfer to be back up and running by then.

I realise you said Asia or Europe, but Air Canada seems to have 4x J award seats on quite a few dates on the SYD-YVR route at the moment. You can book these using Velocity points.

Otherwise, Etihad often has 2x J seats per flight, if you don't mind splitting up and travelling in two groups of two.
