It's also interesting to note that a while I received a letter from Amex confirming that they will not use chip & pin... based on that they have excellent fraud detection and management process. (not exact words - my interpretation of the letter).
Thier words were/are:

PEN OR PIN
'In the coming months, you may notice other financial institutions promoting the introduction of Personal Identification Numbers (PINs) for credit card purchases.
At this stage American Express will not be introducing PINs and your signature will still be required to authorise transactions.
Rest assured that you can continue to enjoy the benefits of using your American Express Card without the need to enter a PIN when making a purchase.
Our fraud protection systems offer Cardmembers the best in security and we provide the added benefit of Fraud Protection Guarantee*
Please note that American Express will continue to provide PINs for Cards with cash access through ATMs.

It seems there are possible problems with a duty free shop at Bangkok airport. Better half has had Citibank ring re mastercard about a transaction there & has now replaced the card. I have always had a lot of faith in stores at airports.

The biggest card fraud doen on me was Duty Free at the old KL airport.

Diners were very good about it. Dont trust anyone anywhere would appear to be the motto.

cheers
