My Qantas flights to Cairns got cancelled due to the cyclone, so I've been offered a voucher for the amount spent on the booking.

I've had less success with the points I used for my upgrade to business and any hope of Original Routing Credit, as they're not open until Monday - same as the Hotels department. I can only imagine what I'll wake up to on Monday (as I go to work when I was supposed to celebrate my birthday).

These flights were supposed to get me into Gold. Do you think there's a chance of getting the ORCs or it is just a dream?

And please allow me to post a couple of emoticons, just because this is the last thing I needed at the end of a really full on couple of months...

People could be losing thier houses and lives might be threatened and you are worried about upgrades? Sorry to be so negative but really, I don't see the point of this post.

Is not the AFF Forum for the dissemination of information related to airlines, travel and aviation? There will be many flyers affected by ITA just as there will be many affected residents in its path.

Not sure why your holiday is cancelled, I would have thought coming form Perth it was more than a weekend, in which case its only a few day delay. By Monday things will be normal most likely, albeit a little bit wet.

I'm currently at the Pullman cairns and the first tree has just come down with the first big gust. I would put up a photo but do not know how with an iPad sorry.

Before any else ... I suggest you do not go the voucher route just yet.

How were the flights booked?

When we you supposed to depart?

If your ticket was issued by qantas you can rebook to any other flights without charge.

See here for that policy:

Call NOW! do not contact qantas frequent flyer, contact qantas domestic bookings and cite the above policy.

From your post it looks like you booked accommodation through Qantas - can't help there as I have not done that this century.

Were you intending to travel for just the weekend?

Kids are living in poverty is SE Asia, yet I'm still posting a trip report about my holiday there. How wicked am I?

I think the point of the post was to discuss flight related matters on the "Australian frequent Flyers Forum".

I have has success in the past with ORC for an untraveled flight.

I was booked MKY-BNE-SYD and QF cancelled at the last minute. Was told to just come back tomorrow (which obviously didn't work) so I had to pay for myself to travel on VA the same day.

Flights from QF were refunded, I was a few hundred out of pocket and I figured I might as well try to get something out of them. A quick email to FF had the original route credited within a few hours.

I can see where you're coming from, but this is a flyers' forum. Your negative post was quite unnecessary.

I don't want to sound like a douchebag who stresses about first world problems, but I was under the impression that this was the place to ask.

Hi, Serfty.

The flight were booked through the QF website, and I was supposed to fly this morning at 00:05 WST. That's why I had to go with the voucher during my second phone call to Qantas, as I needed to do something with the booking before midnight, and it was already 10 at that point.

I called domestic bookings twice last night and once just now, but they told me they can't do anything about the ORC and I should call FF on Monday. I asked them to make a note that I requested the ORC and she said she can see a note about my booking in the system already (but didn't mention ORC).

Yes, I was only going for a long weekend (Sat-Tue) for my birthday. It didn't make sense to push it back a day, as I'd already arranged leave from work, and I was warned I might not be able to even leave the hotel during the following couple of days.

Hi,N860CR.

I hope me having gotten a voucher doesn't affect this - it sounds like you got refunded and then requested the ORC - or didn't you? These flights were supposed to get me very close to Gold, so I thought I'd give it a go.

Yeah that's right. I refunded it altogether. Worth a try though, worst thing they can do is say no.

Definitely - I'll do it first thing on Monday (when I'm back at work).

Refunds are not an option in this case based on the waiver

If the new fare is more expensive than the existing ticketed fare, the fare difference is payable by the passenger. Applicable ticket surcharges, fees and taxes may apply.

I already got a voucher, as I needed to deal with it before midnight last night. I was just wondering about the ORC and whether it's possible to request it or not.

This morning I managed to get a refund for my hotel, but I have to wait until Monday to see what's happened with other bookings (daytrips).

Just as well you didn't come to Cairns, currently blinding rain and a great deal of flooding and airport closed as of last night.

Tonight we're having an after cyclone party with some of our residents.

It probably happened this way for a reason...

Stay safe and enjoy the party. ;)

International flights are operating as normal, a couple of JQ and Va flights operated until about 5PM
