Not a great story for ITA Airways...

Apparently there were two pilots at the controls while the A330 flew over France en-route from New York to Rome. ATC lost contact with the aircraft for around 10 minutes, and fighter jets were deployed.

According to Aviation Herald, the first officer was taking an "approved nap" while the captain was supposed to be awake. He then apparently lied in the subsequent investigation claiming there was a problem with the communication equipment, even though no faults were found. The captain has been fired.
