Hi Tiger travellers.

I'm curious to know how stringent Tiger is being about hand luggage - are they weighing it on check-in? 7kgs is apparently the maximum.

I know they've been strict on checked-in luggage, and charging excess for >15kgs.

Any information appreciated.

I flew Tiger Singapore => Macau a month ago,
the flight was 90% Chinese tourist. Apparently
a lot of people carried a lot on-board and Tiger did not check.

I think as long as it is not too big in size and you can take it
up the stairs it is fine...

Remember discount airlines HAVE TO depart on TIME,
so they won't bother to waste anytime on people....

Pretty much the same for JetStar Asia flight form HKG to SIN

I don't think that's really true. I know that Ryanair strictly enforces their 10kg carry-on limit. Often leading to the bizarre spectacle of people pulling everything they can out of their carry on and stuffing it into their pockets, jackets etc., then reversing the process once they've had the bag weighed.

Yet another example of people being seen to be doing the right (or appropriate) thing.

Slightly different situation but I have had carryon weighed on REX.

I’ve had hand luggage weighed recently after check-in (so, therefore, I’m assuming independent of the airline). This was departing MEL on QF29.

I have had carry on weighed before. Asked what flight i was on and could he see my boarding pass and took no further action as i was SG but still had a 13kg bag. He did give me a small hint to be careful though in future.

KateMayo,

I was about to make a similar comment. I've had carryon weighed at MEL for an International flight. It was after the big steel doors and prior to immigration. It seemed to be a random weigh for any one on any flight.

Certainly happens in Perth on international flights form time to time.

Hi straitman,

Mine was weighed in the same spot.

I have seen them weighing the hand luggage in the immigration hall at PER Int. There is a permenant set of scales, and they grab anyone with bags that look hevaey or the pax seems to be struggling with sans trolley that had to be left on the other side.

I've had hand luggage weighed a couple of times on both Virgin Blue and Jetstar.

My feeling is the fuller the flight the tighter the budget carriers are....?

I have had exactly the same experience, but was several years ago.

I think you're being a bit harsh on Ryanair (how many times have you flown them?).

Don't forget that their opposition (Easyjet) has no carry on bag weight limits (within reason), so Ryanair doesn't enforce their limit very stringently IMHO.

And I must have flown Ryanair at least a dozen times in the last year or so...
