Is this the first $1000+ surcharge for a one-way LHR - MEL?

I can't believe what I've just seen
Dummy booking for LHR -MEL and the add-ons come to a massive $1046 for this one way trip. And I know LHR is expensive but I normally expect to pay about $1000 per round trip NOT this outrage!
Last time I flew in July 2012 it was $250 each going the other way
This FF programme is fast becoming a joke

Unfortunately that's the APD for flights out of the UK. If flying Emirates head for Paris by train.

Currently GBP188 for 6,000 mile+ journeys in anything but economy. Still a lot of airline add-ons in there too.

just had a look and on a revenue J OW LHR to MEL I get AUD900 in Taxes and Fees, impressive...

That is ludicrous. Why is it so hard to include surcharges in the airfare?

The Brits and QF are certainly screwing people hard with the surcharges and taxes....

Guess its a nice little free business generator for the frogs with the number of savvy flyers opting to use CDG...

And in SQ-land although CDG is a lot cheaper than UK departures, it's still $100 more in taxes than places such as AMS and MXP. I assume the same applies when redeeming on points on EK.

Bottom line, worthwhile flying into LHR but leaving from somewhere else in Europe. You can use train to get to CDG or further afield easy jet and even BA have reasonable fares occasionally.
