I note very few actual menu dishes are mentioned. Is the J offering just pot luck, or does one get a choice from a menu like -Y does (albeit a better menu)?

If it is pot luck, can you pre-order a select meal like dietry constained people do (Dear DJ, my special diet can only manage the shepards pie and not the slop in a bowl photographed by some of the poor unfortunate J flyers)?

From the way I see it, it's pot luck just like QF J. You'd probably get two choices, but that's it.

And...of course if nothing catches your fancy, there's the Y menu.

Re: Virgin Australia Business Class Catering - Service, Meal times, Menus

I think MOD needs to change the thread to DOMESTIC Business class.
International was fantastic with less than half the seats full!

If that is indeed the case, I think that's deplorable given the premium price of J (regardless of airline). Even in -Y they realise that not everybody likes the same food. A minimum of two choices would be what I'd expect. Can anyone confirm it as the Virgin website is not specific?

From what I've read so far on the J threads, there's nothing that would really entice me away from my business model of cheapest fare first! A 500% premium is lot to pay for a bit bigger seat (if you're lucky enough to even get that).

I have never had a choice on my J flights. I have had 2 lunch and 2 dinner flights and it's pretty much get what you are given, or get something from Y

Re: Virgin Australia Business Class Catering - Service, Meal times, Menus

Last Sunday, J PER to MEL:
All in all, not bad. I've had better, I actually quite like the pene and meatballs. The big question of course; where was the soup?

This my offering yesterday, MEL-SYD, a breakfast service. It was delecious.
And this was the lunch service, OOL-MEL. It was ordinary.

Thanks for the pics, I'm getting the idea of what gets served, but please....................................................

Was there a choice, or was it pot luck?

Every flight during meal times, I've had a choice. Snack times - no choice.

Thanks muppet......so in comparison to lovestotravels experience, is this yet another inconsistency with the J product? Sometimes a choice of 2? 3? main meals and sometimes a choice of take it or leave it?

Ha ha - Nah just people ignoring you.....

I am thinking back and thinking hard...

Lunch - 100% no choice - Just that scroll thing
Dinner - 99% no choice

Breakfast looks like the best meal though!

I got offered 4 options on a lunchtime flight last week. Yes 4, but I do not believe any of them were actually lunch meals. 2 were left over breakfast options (one of which was omelette or perhaps they said fritatta and sausages) and 2 were snacks, a beef pie or a vegie pie. (no salad). Yep, just like at the Footy, only on a plate!

Yes, I have that effect on people ....

From what I'm reading elsewhere on AFF, it seems I've underestimated the J choices.
1. Two, three or even four main meal choices
2. Take it or leave it choice
3. Forgot the catering so you get nothing for your 500% premium choice
4. Didn't even realise we have J so you still get nothing for your 500% premium choice

Is this a gotcha from one of those trash TV shows or something.........OK you got me, I actually thought this was real for a month or so, now I know it's all just a Virgin joke on me :D. I can laugh about it now.

This does sound correct!

On a recent flight the CSM or whatever they are called, didn't even know they had more than 1 wine choice available....

She was adamant that Virgin only had Chardonnay, but every other flight always had 3 white choices

Things like this are not acceptable in business class.......

Re: Virgin Australia Business Class Catering - Service, Meal times, Menus

Having done dinner flights on Friday night and Sunday night SYD-BNE and return, I can report that J was 100% full on Friday night and 50% full on Sunday. Two choices of dinner offered on both flights, with three whites and one red on Friday night and two whites and two reds on Friday.

Re: Virgin Australia Business Class Catering - Service, Meal times, Menus

For meals, usually two choices. One will be vegetarian orientated, the other meat orientated.

Re: Virgin Australia Business Class Catering - Service, Meal times, Menus

I've recently been offered a choice for breakfast ADL-SYD, for lunch BNE-SYD, but no choice SYD-BNE @ 11am.

Speaking of ignoring posts, I see some posts quoted that I can't see at all in the thread.

This thread has been spun out of another by a mod. The other posts quoted related to the food recieved and photos. If you click on the little double arrow symbol next to the name of the quoted poster, you should be taken to the post.

Re: Virgin Australia Business Class Catering - Service, Meal times, Menus

In my experience, you get two choices for dinner, non-veg and veg. On my last J flight (PER-MEL, I posted about the chorizo pene), the guy in front of me (1A) requested the beef pie (from the Y menu) and it was served on a plate - looked good too.

I'm still miffed about the soup though....

ADL-MEL paid J on a 738 2 weeks ago, diner time, no choice simply handed a lamb curry with cous cous. There were 3 pax in the J cabin total. Perhaps when the load is higher they have more options?

There was also only 1 red and 1 white.

Re: Virgin Australia Business Class Catering - Service, Meal times, Menus

Always had two choices for dinner, even last night CBR-SYD. The flight is so short why bother with a full meal?

I chose lentil curry, btw and very nice it was too!
