Is there any particular reason that VA doesn't have full access to SQ awards?

Firstly I completely understand that in some cases airlines block or restrict access to award inventory to their partners; I was just curious as to whether there was any specific reason that this is the case when booking VA awards on an SQ flight.

For the particular flights I wanted I checked the availability on UA first for two seats on the flights I wanted and VA were only able to find me one. However even after booking the one seat on the flights I wanted I was still able to book at least two seats with UA on exactly the same SQ flights whereas VA said there was nothing else available.

So I guess is that a restriction that VA are aware of and if so what is the likelihood that any partner airlines at all are going to be able to be searched/booked online in the near future? To be honest it was almost better in some ways under Navitaire because at least I could book EY, VS and DL awards online.

I don't see SQ wanting premium seats going to non customers especially when VA are not what you would call a real partner airline. This of course could change if SQ could get a larger stake in VA.
At the moment SQ are generous to Kris flyer members so I love it.

Oh yeah sure I get that but I was only booking Y seats!!

I probably should've mentioned that

Jozdemir the use of FF points to do an economy run on SQ is a real waste because the SQ redemption charges are quite high. Some say very, very high so cash works better.

Oh yeah sure I get that mate better than most; between UA/AA/QF/VA I've redeemed nearly a million points on premium awards in the last 12 months so I'm well aware of the best use of points!

However for this particular trip my mate had a specific budget; we're heading to Cancun, Vegas with a stop in Tokyo and Hong Kong on the way home.

By using UA points I got us up to NRT in C and then booked a round trip from NRT for the rest in C because it fitted in the budget that way, and it's more comfortable!

Then it turned out my mate had a bunch of VA points sitting round he didn't know about so I just used those to book us back in Y from HKG-SIN-PER since there wasn't enough points for us both to do it in C.

So it made sense to me in the end, even if it doesn't to anyone else haha

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.
