Is releasing frequent flyer seats for platinum still happening?

Yup, happened to me yesterday. Called up customer service around 8:45 AM to request for a classic reward Y from CBR-SYD. Took about 20 mins to get through. After that the person on the phone was helpful and she was able to secure a Y seat for me.

I called this morning to enquire about getting seats released for international travel early next year. The agent looked at the fare buckets and only J and C are available. For the seats to get released they need to be "I" for WP and "I/D" for P1's. The agent mentioned that she had not had much success in getting international seats released and at the moment it is up to the computer to say "yes" as manual assessments are not being done during Covid.
