I do not get it, why is Qantas eroding their market by down grading the premium services they paid so much to put in to place(first class lounges domestic business lounges) I thought that they'd set up a budget airline IE jetstar, now it looks like their trying to make their premium service in to a budget airline, can anyone tell me why, and what is loyalty worth? seems not a lot, what will it gain by downgrading status benefits getting rid of first class seats on long hall flights,it has me stumped.
Are they trying to push people onto other airlines, is it a plot to destroy their brand.

I'm not sure what you are pointing to. My guess on the F seats is lack of demand. That was the impression I had talking to an A380 cabin manager last month.

I think we need to resign ourselves to the fact that in order to be more competitive Qantas will need to move away from the premium airline that it is currently and move most operations across to Jetstar.

Of course we do not have all the answers and it would be nice to know the future plans of Qantas from QF management.

Its funny I was on a 747 from LA two weeks ago and the cabin manager was saying that their always full in first and business , something I have noticed on my regular trips, the other thing I note is that Qantas is the only airline that as managed to make a profit in good times and bad when every other airline have not, it seems to me that the management wish to run it like a budget airline, some one once said why fix it if it's not broken.
I just wonder if they have the right management running it

Well as check-in staff i can tell you as a matter of fact the P cabin is generally very light in loads from paying passengers, when you see a full first cabin it generally means they have over sold W or Y or J and have to bump people up into those cabins.

Say if Y is oversold and J is fully booked along with W, they will bump J up to P, W up to J and Y up to W.

Anyway QF is still keeping thei MEL/SYD-LAX and MEL/SYD-SIN-LHR routes as first class.

P = First
J = Business
W = Premium Economy
Y = Ecomony

Well push me up as I am always available for upgrading!

This is probably the reason that Qantas is not intending to drop F cabins on the SYD/MEL flights to LAX. There is obvious demand on that and the London routes. Its the other routes where there is insufficient demand to be viable.

Or P and J are full of staff!

Or, more likely as in my experience, payhing passengers who use their FFP to upgrade - I fly SYD-SIN-LHR and return about 4 times a year - each time I buy a J-class fare and use my points to move to F - over the past 18 months have had only 2 non-upgraded legs. I like to think Ive 'paid' for my F ticket! :)

Mind you, one of those times that I didn't get an upgrade I found out that 3 seats in F were taken up by a staff members wide and two children - now, that made me GROWL!
