Is it worth booking through VA just for the points? vs Virgin Atlantic

I compared the price of booking through VA for a return trip for 2 adults from Sydney to Hong Kong and the prices were:

Virgin Australia: Departing Premium Economy 20/12/2013 3:45pm, Return Upper Class 7:10pm 4/1/2014. TOTAL for 2 ppl including taxes = $8,962.96AUD
Virgin Atlantic: Departing Upper Class 20/12/2013 3:45pm, Return Upper Class 7:10pm 4/1/2014. TOTAL for 2 ppl including taxes = $7,045.12AUD

So Virgin Atlantic offers Upper class on both flights AND is cheaper about about $1,900AUD as well.

Is there something I'm missing or is that $1,900AUD difference the price I'd pay to earn the VA status credits and points?

You still get VA SC and points, just no status bonus on your points. I'd book with VS going off the info provided.

J points would be bigger than PE points though, so maybe not much of a difference?

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

You may miss out on a few points but you will get more status credits and more importantly a flat bed!

Edit: The lost points will probably be worth less than the 1.9K you will save booking VS - i'd book them ASAP before they disappear.

Ok booked it.
I often read comments on the forum like "Virgin handed out express lane passes", what is this in relation to?
Is it customs leaving Sydney or customs entering Sydney?

I do find that there are attrocious lines in both instances!
