So here's a question hopefully the experts can assist with. I would like to fly MEL-LHR-MEL in September of next year.

I have enough points to redeem for Business Class fares with Singapore and as I cannot afford to wait and see if I accrue enough points for First, I plan on booking the business class rewards as soon as possible.

If, say, in April or May of next year, I do have additional points - is it possible to up my business class booking to first or suites using those additional points or am I essentially locked in to the seats I've redeemed?

Anyone had experience with this?

You could re-deposit miles back to your KrisFlyer account and just make sure you can get that First Class seat when you have enough points; it depends on the availability. Saver redemption is usually wait-listed till 2-4 weeks before flight.

@ Cerca - indeed you can upgrade or downgrade a rdpt booking - it can be done online and is def best way to do it if possible. I have not attempted since new site has been up but have done both online on old site - extra pts and $s if you upgrade and refund pts and $s if you downgrade.

BUT - old site was quite temperamental - (Yes I know - that is the understatement of the century) - sometimes it just would not complete and you had to call KF to assist. The 'kicker' here was that you still had to pay extra pts and $s to complete phone upgrades but no refund of pts and $s for phone assisted downgrades - I had several animated discussions with KF agents re exactly this point and never won one argument.

My advice - try online first - if all works then thumbs up - if not then call KF call Ctr - they are always your best friends.

Yes it is certainly possible as long as there is availaibility.

I have done exactly that. ie Changed from Business to Suites on an existing booking.

When I made my originally booking the date was not what I preferred. So I checked occassionally by going to change my flight (you can change dates and clases, but not destination). One day on checking I again could not swap to Business on my preferred datre, but Suites had opened up for 2 and so online I made the change.

Having said that I have looked on other bookings and have not had availibility open.

Tactic 2 would be to book a waitlist ona Suite or F, as waitlist can open in the last week or too. But you may not have the points needed.

Excellent advice guys. That's given me a lot of confidence. I'm gonna apply my points now to the business seats to lock in the dates and see what accrues next year points-wise and first/suites availability.
