iPad micro-sim in India

Hi All,

I'll be travelling to India for a couple of weeks in December. Can anyone recommend a pre-paid ipad 3g service? Hoping to be able to pick something up at the airport but it's my first trip to India so not sure about providers etc.

You could try one of the Indian grocery stores in Sydney, the ones here in Canberra all sell Indian phone cards and pre-paid mobile SIMs.

At worse they would likely point you in the right direction regarding services for iPads in India.

Its fairly easy to obtain a SIM in India - biggest companies are Vodafone and Airtel. You cannot just buy one from a shop like here - there is a process.

As a foreigner I approached my Hotels Conciege - I needed to complete a form, give him a copy of my passport's details page and a passport photo and a couple of hundred rupees to purchase the SIM.
I got a standard SIM but I am sure you can order a microSIM instead.

It took most of the day to appear - I tipped him a couple of hundred rupees as well.

I got the Airtel one - works here on Optus'so can keep it active

Like Chrisd26, I got a SIM from the hotel concierge who went down the street and bought it for me. You must have a passport photo ready (and it can't be just a laser / inkjet print out, it must be a proper photo), and a copy of your passport. The reason is someone has to 'refer' you - you can't just be a walk in to a telco store.

I had difficulty finding Micro SIMs last year .. but I had my Noosy Micro SIM Cutter so it wasn't a problem.
