Haven't seen this mentioned before and a search didn't turn up anything, so hopefully this isn't a repost of old news.

In the SYD J lounge this morning I noticed a sign at the counter mentioning you can borrow an iPad to use whilst in the lounge. I didn't get any specific details but it must be a relatively new service as there was a photographer in the lounge taking photos of a well arranged table (coffee, yoghurt breakfast and iPad) who mentioned that the photos were of the iPad offering.

Will try to get more details on my way back though this evening.

Hopefully the wifi for the loan iPads will be better than the standard offering - I couldn't get the lounge wifi to work on my own iPad or my laptop this morning.

Int or Dom J lounge? Am travelling domestic on Sunday. Would be nice to have a play before I decide to buy one for my int trip in Jule

Domestic.

Didn't see any signage at CBR this morning and nothing at the ADL Qantas Club either - so perhaps it's only a trial at the moment.

When I visited the Melbourne domestic J lounge in March, they had 1 or 2 chained to a table.

I did use it for a few minutes as the computers were all taken.

This sort of announcement reminds me of the Four Seasons in Maranouchi (Tokyo), who also advertise they have an iPad for loan - more a gimmicky move than anything else.

You would only use it just to surf the net and avoid any web pages with Flash (because Steve hates Adobe)...

They should get Samsung Galaxy 10.1 Tablets, or the Acer Honeycomb tablet instead...

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

AFF Supporters can remove this and all advertisements

Why? so they can run Flash?

Every PC I own has a plethora of Flash blocking plug-ins for all browsers. I detest flash with a passion. It's a resource hungry, proprietary, memory-leaky, buggy and easily exploited piece of bloatware.

The sooner HTML5 is pushed the better. It's slowly coming in though.

iPad is perfect for these kinds of environments. JQ worked with Apple and a software vendor to do a customised version of iOS for the IFE that they're (eventually) launching, and the user experience of an iPad is far more simple than any Android Tab i've used.

Most the people in the J lounge will use it for a newspaper or two (does not need flash; all of them are jam packed with flash advertisements) or perhaps check their webmail/other web page (again, why need flash? iPad's do have YouTub app's if you really want video).

Sorry for the rant :)

I don’t want to get into an iPad-versus-something-else debate (for the record I love my iPad but I accept that there is a market for different devices).

However this seems to me more like a bit of a marketing-driven response to Virgin’s recent promotional wins than anything else. It could point to them being a little desperate...

Last Friday 20 May, I was offered the use of the iPad on arrival at the SYD lounge.

It"s probably a marketing stunt by Apple more than anything else. I don't see the benefit of having iPads loaned in the QP. But each to their own...

(Also, I'm being neutral here. Please don't take my dislike of Apple products as the reason for this post).
