With frequent travels I'm keen to buy and self-install wireless cameras in apartment. max 2, internal. night vision and remote viewing a must. pref with recording but away from apartment. I'm on my way to Jaycar to see what they suggest. Any recommendations?

Thanks for that. I am in a rush to I got two of these this morning and i think they are relatively easy to set up. Resolution may not be as good but still does 30 fps. Has night vision.

Wi-Fi IP Camera with Pan & Tilt - Jaycar Electronics

$106.95 each (and a little discount to bring price down further.)

You get what you pay for, for a start the vision at night wont be 30 fps (I am betting they did not give you a demo), and anyone wanting to make sure they are not recordered just needs to wear a cap with an IR LED or three built in. With the inbuilt LEDs you will be lucky to get two years from them, it's the weakest point in the technology at present.

I would also state clear of motion JPEG, it's bandwidth hungry and storage hungry, defacto choice should be H264, especially for wireless viewing. I find the recommendations often made on Whirlpool are cheap and rarely good value in the long term.

We've got 5 Logitech cams setup at the office at 500/pop which have IR and the quality in the dark is amazing. Has a iPhone app for remote viewing anytime. Alerts for movement, can trigger events like play a sound file etc.. All the cheap ones are a waste IMO

Thelogitech alert surveillance. There is anindoorand outdoor camera. Both work well. They use the power sockets as the network connection. Pretty neat.
