Just received this in my mailbox..

Thought some may want to read..

Virgin Blue has launched a revolutionary, innovative new process to check-in and board on domestic flights via a traveller's mobile called "Check-Mate". You no longer have to rush to the airport and join the queues, or worry about leaving your on-line boarding pass on the printer, now everything is in your pocket.

Easy Check-in

The mobile app for Virgin Blue's Check-Mate system is the 1st in Australia which lets you check-in from anywhere, when travelling between Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane. No need to be at your computer, your BlackBerry™ or 3G phone does it all.

Electronic Boarding Pass

With Virgin Blue Check-Mate you don't even need to print out your boarding pass. You'll get a 2D Bar code sent to your BlackBerry™ or 3G phone, which is scanned at the gate.

Book or change your flight

Virgin Blue Check-Mate also allows you to book and change your flight, at the touch of your screen on your BlackBerry™ or 3G phone.

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

I just viewed the new system using my desktop browser.

Looks like JQ's mobile system, except a little better and it does have the check-in thing.

I don't have any DJ bookings so I can't make a call on the process. I wonder if it will let you select a seat (presuming it should, since you cannot do this at booking; again I could be wrong).

Still, full of information and better than QF (you can't book flights on QF's mobile site). Very nice.

EDIT: Can you look up your reservation if you forget the PNR? With QF's site I can log into my QFF account to retrieve my bookings. There isn't a similar mechanism for the DJ site.

I've just checked out the website, looks like you can select your seat too!

Check-in and seat selection is now available via our mobile check-in platform for Guests travelling between Brisbane, Sydney and Melbourne using web enabled mobile phones.

Wasn’t DJ’s mobile check-in previously announced? I remember saying it looked like a far better implementation than QF’s.

I'm not too sure, it could have been.

I only received the annoucement email this afternoon..

I know the feeling. I received the QF mobile checkin email just the other day, much later than everyone else.

I tried to check-in last week (12 May) and despite having a valid RELOC number, couldn't do it. Had to book in using a computer instead, which worked fine. I was using an iPhone, so that may have had something to do with it.
