Intl F lounge guesting rules

Hi all

My mum's leaving SYD in BA First on the same day I fly out on VS. Mum leaves about an hour after me.

Is she able to guest me into the QF F Lounge? The Qantas site seems to suggest she could ("one guest permitted") and I know she can in the domestic business lounges ... just interested in any first-hand experience internationally.

Your Mum will only be able to guest you in if she:

• is travelling in First Class or
• has non Qantas oneworld emerald status.

Access to The Qantas Club lounges

Class of Travel	International First Lounge
Qantas International First	Next onward flight that day must be on a Qantas or British Airways flight number. One guest permitted.

Emerald	Next onward flight that day must be on a oneworld operated and marketed flight[SUP]#[/SUP]. One guest allowed.

For a Qantas Platinum, their guest should be travelling with them:

Member Type	International First Lounge
Platinum	Next onward flight must be on a Qantas, Jetstar Airlines[SUP]+[/SUP] or oneworld flight number.[SUP]#[/SUP] One guest allowed and must be travelling with the member.

[SUP]#[/SUP] Next onward flight that day must be on a oneworld Airline Members operated and marketed flight.
Note: a oneworld marketed flight refers to a flight with a oneworld flight number, eg QF1 or AA222. A oneworld operated flight refers to the actual aircraft or 'metal' on which you fly, eg Finnair aircraft.

I would expect though that they would be unlikely to distinguish and more likely to deny access.

That is the first time I have noticed that. I had always assumed that even if one was traveling F or was a non QF OWE your guest still needed to be traveling with you.

As your mother is traveling F I'd love to know how you go with this. I'm kinda with simongr on this so it might be worth taking a print out of the rules.

Shrek has guested a colleague into the SYD F Lounge when travelling F on BA SYD-SIN, the colleague was on a different QF flight also going to SIN, I presume the guest was allowed due to the F ticket rather than his WP status. I think I posted this a while ago and was corrected by ?? Serfty around guest rules for F passengers.

I have guested a colleague into the F lounge when we were on different flights (I was BA in J and she was QF whY+). I was more thinking about the fact that it was a non OW airline that would cause the problem.

We're not travelling until September, so will be a while until I can report back. Anyone had first-hand experience in a similar situation?

The Platinum v OWE variation is just plain weird if it's for real....

I must admitt, I'd always taken the 'must be travelling with the member' to not specifically be 'travelling on the same departing flight' but rather that you can't guest random people in.

It may also be there to remind one that the international lounges are air side and as such any guest needs to be travelling internationally to even get to the lounge.

The OneWorld site is inconsitent. Under QF Platinum is states
[h=2]Qantas Frequent Flyer Platinum[/h] Equivalent to oneworld Emerald
Lounge access benefits: When travelling on any of the oneworld member airlines, regardless of the class of service, an Emerald equivalent member and one guest will be welcome in any of the exclusive airline pre-flight lounges, including First Class, Business Class and Frequent Flyer lounges.

Elsewhere on the site it states


Emerald: When travelling on any of the oneworld member airlines, any customer who has earned Emerald tier status, is welcome (with one guest travelling on a flight operated and marketed by a oneworld airline) at any oneworld airlines' pre-flight lounges, including First Class, Business Class and frequent flyer lounges regardless of the class they are travelling in.

Going by Qantas.com, if using QFF status for access then, No.

If using CX MPC status then, Yes.

As for recent experience, I have seen anecdotes indicating that it's a case of YMMV.

Still "Traveling Together" - what ever that means.

In practice there seems to be few issues.

Current website says for QF WPs and those flying QF or BA F, the "travelling with the member" rule applies.

For non-QF OWEs and non-QF or BA OW F pax, it only says "one guest allowed" (on a OW operated and marketed flight); no stipulation of whether you have to be travelling together or not.

To answer your question, it depends on how you are gaining entry, which you haven't explicitly given all the details on (ie if you are a non-QF OWE or flying F on non-QF metal)...

But as serfty said, YMMV.

In April I was travelling QF F and was able to guest in someone travelling QF Y to a different destination. But I am quite sure the rules at the time allowed an F pax to do this. They seem to have changed. The best/worst you can do is advise your friend they may/may not get access, and if they are happy to live with this, then give it a try. Not your fault if they are denied.

I have guested a colleague travelling BA whY when I was on QF J.

When guesting people I always preface it with "I think I can get you in but..."

I think they do - so they recharge the other operator for use of the lounge. I wonder if they recharge the FF program if entering as a QF WP...

Almost always - 99% of the time IME. (I'm sure it's supposed to be 100%)

They input the BP details into their computers for on-charging/reconciliation I believe.
