A couple of interesting and different on-board announcements in the last few days:

1/ AA - ORD-SEA had the pilot come over the intercom just before pushback and say: "Unless your electronic device is powered by a hamster and wheel then it needs to be switched off" :)

2/ Same flight had the CSM announce to the whole plane over the intercom that AA EXP's receive complimentary drinks and snacks in the Coach cabin.
I was aware that EXP's got the free snacks and drinks, but this was the first time I've seen it advertised overtly.

3/ Flying LAX-SEA yesterday on AS, the First Cabin attendant made a point of introducing herself to the whole cabin, explaining the meal service/options/timing etc.
Then just before landing stood at the front of the cabin, asked for everyone's attention and thanked them for flying and choosing AS, and making her flight enjoyable as well.
Didn't see that on my other AS flights, but a different approach that the F cabin seemed to like.

Pretty cool announcements imo.

If DJ ever did this (and they do), we'd be hearing it on the news and from certain flyers that it is unacceptable to joke ra ra ra ra and that is the sole reason why they won't fly DJ ever.

I've had nothing short of spectacular service on all my AS F flights. They really are a first class airline for customer service (although I do dislike the 'prayers' they put on the meal trays... each to their own).

I have had various announcements on AA along the lines of "Ladies and Gentlemen, our on-board electronic device detector has detected 6 cell phones still switched on at this time. We cannot take off until you have powered all of these off".

They seem to try a few different tactics to get people to turn off PED's. They regularly fail (witnessing many people just power-on through on their Blackberry/iPhones even during the take-off roll).
