Hi - was wondering whether anyone had an experiences. Want to burn QF points on a J ticket to DPS, but want to avoid Jetstar. Anyone had any experience in ringing QF and trying to get it ticketed using CX via Hong Kong or a combination of QF to SIN and then Jetstar Asia to DPS. Yes I know its the long way around, but just dislilke with the whole Jetstar thing. Am flying from BNE.

No experience here, but I would just call QF and ask for options and see what they come up with. If you don't like the answers, you don't have to book. Nothing ventured, nothing gained....

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

QR do not fly to BNE. And they certainly do not publish a BNE-DPS fare. I think what medhead was referring to is SIN-DPS

SIN-DPS tag was replaced last July by a nonstop DOH-DPS service.

There's also BNE-KUL-DPS on MH.

Thanks for the replies, will give QF a call ( or two if I get a dopy agent) next week and see what they come back with. Damn pity about the QR flights. Some simples research shows that KLM is $400 return in J from SIN-DPS which is very reasonable and for me much better than Jetstar

I was referring to doh-dps but not originating from BNE. I can't remember the exact context of seeing this option. Possibly an award from Europe.

If you're willing to spend the points you can have whatever routing you want given QF is distance based

BNE-SYD on QF followed by SYD-SIN BA F?

(edited to remove reference to KLM as I see you'd already found that anna!)

Yes KLM is a good option, unless departing SIN on Fri or DPS on Sun (often heavily booked with weekenders). Main disadvantage (or advantage?) timing is such that returning to BNE it involves a night in SIN, although then you could try :)lol:) to get a J or F seat on EK back to BNE during the afternoon, and enjoy the service, instead of travelling back overnight.

Now you are talking, thanks for the EK prompt!!

When are you going ?

I only ask as I am flying JQ next Tuesday BNE-DPS in *class.
Happy to report on the trip if it helps.

Or you could go QF to DRW and JQ from DRW to DPS. That sector is only 2 hours, same duration as taking 3Kdown from SIN.

Aiming for late Jan/early Feb next year when the school crowds are gone. A report back would be great thanks

But with JQ, it's not only the length of the flight to worry about. It's that they will cancel flights, rearrange flight schedules at short notice mucking up your connections, or suffer long flight delays that are much longer than a 2 hour sector and will give you cough information about the delay and very little in the way of trying to make the delay more bearable.

I've only flown JQ a couple of times and my problem with them hasn't been the onboard service. It has been all the cough that went on before I finally managed to get on board. That's why I avoid them like the plague and maybe the OP is the same (although I also avoid DPS like the plague :p:mrgreen:).

Agree with delays - although even a couple of hours would perhaps be preferable to 15+ hours via HKG, or 10+ hours via SIN. JQ starclass is a lot of fun, and just over 5 hours...

Might be worth checking if the delays are still an issue - I know there were a year or so ago.

I have flown JQ to Japan (twice) and while it's always in J. I have found the actual flights quite ok. I'm not a dan of overnight flights, especially when flying into CNS at some ungodly hour of the morning with no lounge or even a cafe to get a coffee.
So maybe I'm one of the fortunate ones?
