French freak-out: plane makes accidental emergency announcement

French passengers on an Aer Lingus Dublin-Paris flight were thrown into panic when a faulty announcement told them the plane was about to make an emergency landing, the airline said.

An English-language announcement 20 minutes after leaving Dublin said the plane was heading into turbulence, asking passengers to return to their seats - but the pre-recorded French version said they were about to ditch.

Here's a French description of the airline in this situation, which I think everyone can guess the meaning:

les stupides

No need to panic about the translation of that one, but otherwise they should probably go back to the old fashioned method of ensuring at least one French-speaking human FA on board.

I would have thought that the number of French people onboard would have been lower than "enough to matter"

lets face it, what frenchman would go back to France after being in ireland?

Almost like Jetstar with their pre recorded announcements! That would be scary for someone who ONLY spoke French!!! and didn't understand English.

Reminds me of the time on QF94 LAX-MEL mid pacific a prerecorded announcement jolted me from my light sleep to the effect that we had to place the oxygen masks to our faces as were undergoing rapid descent or something like that. A little disconcerting initially but took all of 3 or 4 seconds to realise that perhaps the announcement shouldn't have been playing, something the pilot confirmed about a minute later.
